A Modern Football Superstar Post by: James Brayshaw 4 August, 2009 - 4:15 PM

Aaaah ... Jonathan Brown, what a superstar footballer this man is.
I watched the Lions play on Saturday night and Browny's first 45 minutes were breathtaking ... in fact, if I was going to pay him the highest compliment I would say those two quarters were Carey like. Contested marks inside 50, long surging drop punts splitting the middle, ferocious tacking and pressure placed on the Pies defenders. It was everything you would dream from your big power forward. And while he was on song, the Lions looked a five goal better team than their opposition.
Suddenly Mick Malthouse dropped three back on him and in the absence of Daniel Bradshaw, the Lions only avenue to attack was snuffed out.As it was he took double figure marks and kicked 5-4, which is a astounding day at the office when you consider the Lions went down by 40 points. The previous week he kicked eight against my team and not for the first time made a number of our defenders second rate.
There are not many footballers who make me turn on the television, in fact you could start counting them on one hand and you wouldn't get to the thumb. But J Brown is one of them, I watch Brisbane play, regardless of who they are playing against, because he's out there.
Like Wayne Carey and Mark Waugh and Fred Couples, Browny is going to be one of those blokes who we won't fully appreciate until he's not playing anymore, that's human nature and its a fact. When we see someone whose this good we sort of mentally take it for granted. But this man is a once in a generation operator and I love watching play more than anyone else in the comp ... my own team aside!
So even though his team didn't greet the judges ... Jono Brown's single handed performance on Saturday night was more than enough to get him nominated as my Triple MVP for round 18!

JB goes on about Carey, but for my money Gary Ablett and Jono Brown are definately both better than the former Kangaroo champion.

Any one in their right mind would have Jono Brown in a flash. Still dirty that he's a Victorian but helped Queensland to all those premierships.
