Geelong Star Nabbed In Cocaine Sting
Strak 4 February, 2010 - 7:41 AM

Geelong Football Club is in damage control after player Matthew Stokes was arrested for possession and trafficking of cocaine.
You can see how dejected he looks after leaving Geelong Police Station in the above photo from the Geelong Advertiser.
It's the talk of Geelong town, as the premiership player got caught up in a big cocaine sting. It's alleged that text messages to a dealer is how Stokes was caught out and in the same bust, five other people were arrested.
Geelong FC have now announced sanctions imposed on Mathew Stokes are:Mathew Stokes has been suspended from consideration for selection in the club’s AFL team until round 8, 2010. The suspension will be served in the following manner:
From today until round 1 of the AFL season, Mathew Stokes can train at the club only when no other players are present
From round 1 – round 4 of the AFL season, Mathew Stokes can train with the club’s VFL listed players only
From round 5 - round 7 of the AFL season, Mathew Stokes can train with the VFL squad and will be eligible to play in the VFL
From round 8, Mathew Stokes will be eligible to train with the full squad and for selection in the club’s AFL team
Mathew Stokes will be fined $5,000, the maximum sanction under the AFL player’s code of conduct
Between now and round 4 of the AFL season, Mathew Stokes is to find full time employment and conduct any training out of working hours
Mathew Stokes is to establish a relationship with a drug related community program and assist with that program on an on-going basis.
The unnoficial mayor of Geelong, Billy Brownless, told the Hot Breakfast how the one-eyed town would be taking the news.
Is an 8 game ban too lenient for such a serious charge?

Footy is kiiding itself if this isn't going on more than it's reported. It takes for something like this to happen before anyone believes it. Of course he's innocent until guilty, but if he's done he should be out forever.

Yes, damn right! If he's done the wrong thing then he should be rubbed out.

I am a one eyed Geelong supporter and if Matthew Stokes is found guilty he should be banned for life from playing AFL. He needs to remember that up and coming footballers mould themselves on and look up to current players, what sort of role model is this.

If he is found guilty, Stokes should be locked up for 5 years. That would end his career and give him time to think about what he has done. It would also get another dirty filthy piece of garbage drug dealer off the street. He looks dejected in the photo because he was caught. It's amazing how people show remorse only after they are caught.
