Death Of One Day Cricket Post by: Strak 10 February, 2010 - 10:13 AM

A call to kill off one day cricket has been heard loud and clear after the Adelaide game. Only 8,378 cricket fans bothered to turn up to the Adelaide Oval to see Australia easily beat the West Indies. It was the lowest attendance for a 50 over game.

The message was loud and clear last weekend in Melbourne when 60,000 turned up to the Twenty20 game on a cloudy Melbourne day, but only 20,000 turned up to the 50 ODI on a brilliant sunny Sunday.

It's not just the pasting that the Aussie's keep giving the West Indies, but the fans have spoken with their love for the shorter version of the one day game.

Listen to Shane Warne's ideas for the future of the game.

Should 50 Over One Day games be killed off?

They brought it upon themselves, they wanted a piece of the 20-20 action and in turn it has eaten up the 50 ODI game. Personally i reckon a 2 innings 20-20 game could be the way of the future.

What a farce. They should have phased it out while bringing in Twenty 20 because look at what's happened. There's too much cricket and we can't keep up.

I'd like to see 20/20 and Test cricket as the only 2 forms of the game. I went to the game sunday and was bored out of my mind - the format seems like a slow 20/20 game these days. Test cricket is my favorite form of cricket and I'd love to see it continue to be the most important, not crowded out by a calender of one day and 20/20 games. Something has to go, and I think it should be the 50 over game.

I love One-Day cricket. Especially the day time Sunday games - of which there are none this year.
When they're charging $60 for the cheapest ticket, and you can only make half the game due to work, can you blame people not turning up?
I think it's time to move back to full day sunday games.

I went to the Tuesday game in Adelaide and yes I thought it was a bit boring, for one I would like to see more 20/20 games but also more games played in adelaide, and make the 20/20 games in the evenings only, that way if a game is on during the week people can go after work. They would have a better turnout and I think that 20/20 games and so much fun and heaps of enjoyment to watch.

ODI the players prefer better but bring back the Tri Series and boost it. We can't have the proper World Cup being overshadowed by the T-20 world Cup.

Weekends would have better crowds, bring the boundaries back and cheaper tickets.

Don't need to change it because it would be worse but cut down on T-20 as much as possible.

T-20 have very little cricket, Bang Bang innings over. I would rather see games where the innings are built and bowlers have a better chance as well as spent a whole day at the cricket rather then 3 hours.
