Ricky Stuart Best Thing For NSW Origin Since 1980s, Says Matty Johns
Matty Johns says Blues coach Ricky Stuart has been the best thing for NSW since the 1980's despite the Blues losing the 2012 Origin series.
The Grill Team's Matty Johns says Blues coach Ricky Stuart has been the best thing for NSW since the 1980's despite the Blues losing the 2012 Origin series.
"I can't give him anything but a pass mark in every way. He has sold the game so well," Johns said on Triple M Sydney.
"I thought the [Blues] performance this year was tremendous, we came so close to winning the series," Johns added.
Mark Geyer agreed saying he thought Stuart would initially be "too intense for Origin but it suits him to the ground."
"He's ready for the next step...go back into a full time NRL gig...I think he'd be a great coach, but which club," Geyer pondered.
The two footy greats however disagreed about Stuart coaching both club and Origin.
Geyer said he'd love to have him as a club coach but said "you can't have your cake and eat it" adding "it detracts way too much from the season" to be both Origin and club coach.
Matty said he would do anything in his power to have him in both roles.
"It's proven throughout history that if you're the national coach or you're coaching Origin, players are drawn to you because they see opportunity in being coached by you," Matty said firmly.
