EXCLUSIVE: John Daly Tells Triple M Why He Really Left The Australian Open Post by: Triple M 14 November, 2011 - 8:50 AM

John Daly has given us his first interview since leaving the Australian Open last week - and told us what really made him split.

"It wasn't like I didn't try", he told Eddie McGuire and The Hot Breakfast team in Melbourne, "it wasn't a give up by any means ... ego got in the way, adrenalin got in the way."

Daly revealed the real reason he so sensationally left the green; "I was embarrassed because I ran out of balls."

He insisted that he didn't give up, saying "if you make a 25 on a hole and you tried, you don't care. It's the ones you give up on - and I didn't give up on one shot."

"I got pretty beat up in the press. I think if I didn't have a past of certain stupid things I've done on a golf course, I think honestly people would have laughed and got over it."

Check out the interview with The Hot Breakfast to hear more about Daly's decision to leave the field - plus what Greg Chalmers said to him:

Are you ready to "laugh and get over it", or do you think John Daly made a mistake in leaving the green?
