Aussie Beach Volleyballer Nat Cook has told Triple M Brisbane her Aussie flag protest was "not serious" after telling media in London it's a "no brainer" and that she'd "sit in protest" if a man carries the flag at the Opening Ceremony.

"It was a bit of a joke however my personal opinion is that it should be a chick, it's time for a chick," she told The Grill Team.

The Beach Volleyballer who won gold on Bondi Beach in Sydney back in 2000, had a few suggestions for which ladies she'd like to see have the honour.

"Leisel Jones is coming into the village today, this is her fourth swimming Olympic games, Anna Meares the cyclist, she's won gold medals, this is her third [Olympic games]...and me," Nat added.

However the Queenslander said she would be behind whoever is chosen saying "it's the greatest thing for an Olympian is to march in the Olympic ceremony."

"I will be behind whoever the boy is waving and cheering and maybe with a little sign that says 'should've picked me, should've picked me', Nat laughed when asked what she'd do if a man is chosen.
