Castlecomer are one of the best new bands in the Australian music scene. The homegrown Sydney crew are making big waves with their alternative, folk style sounding like a mix between Vance Joy and Kingswood.

From all reports they're awesome live (look at the videos below) and they've got some dates coming up for their East Coast tour (below).

20 Years Of Silverchair's "Tomorrow"

This week sees 20 years since the release of Silverchair's seminal debut "Tomorrow"

Silverchair back in the day Photo:

The story of Silverchair's seminal debut grunge single "Tomorrow" is one the great Australian music success stories.

This week sees 20 years since the release of the single that sparked their international notoriety so we thought it would be fit to do a bit of a recap.

  • The single was released on 16th of September 1994, as the lead track on their debut EP, and then appearing on their debut album Frogstomp (1995).
  • It reached No 1. on the Aria charts in October of that year and stayed there for six weeks
  • Written by Daniel Johns (vocals, guitar), Ben Gillies (drums) and featuring Chris Joannou (bass), the track demo was first recorded for $75 in early 1994 - they were all 14.

  • After winning a music writing competition, the group got to properly record the single and make the video for the track.
  • It was only after the track went to No 1. in Australia were they offered a recording deal with Sony.
  • In 1995 a re-recorded version of "Tomorrow" and a new music video helped the track get to No 1. on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and Album Rock Tracks.
  • The track won three ARIA's (1995), "Single of the Year", "Highest Selling Single" and "Breakthrough Artist - Single"

With their recent gigs in London, Foo Fighters have been trialling some new tracks, but not in a way you would expect.

As you can see in the footage below, Grohl and the boys previewed new track "Outside" from Sonic Highways as a little instrumental snuck into the middle of fan favourite "The Pretender."

Pretty sneaky and you could easily miss it but listen back at around the 2 minute mark to hear parts of the new track.

VIDEO: Courtney Love's Isolated Guitar And Vocals

Is this the worst thing ever? Courtney Love's solo guitar and vocal work sounds terrible.

She has been previously known as the 'Queen of Punk-Rock' and anyone who has listened to Courtney Love playing with Hole over the years knows she loves to thrash out a tune.

However, in this latest video that surfaced after a feud with a videographer, he has supposedly isolated her guitar and solo vocals and, well, they're pretty darn rough.

Courtney Love's Solo Guitar And Vocals on "Celeb Skin"

Courtney Love and Hole Solo Guitar And Vocals Video: YouTube / J.M. Ladd

Is it possible that Courtney Love sounds this bad on her own? Or is it just a hoax?

Below is videographer J.M. Ladd's thoughts on the audio and what happened between them as explained on Stereogum.

"Of course, while you can see the whole band playing, the only person you can hear is Love, whose guitar and vocal tracks are isolated in the mix. Explains Hill:

I was hired through the venue to record this show (including many others throughout that week) and was then left standing with a hard drive and an invoice no one seemed to want. Four years later I still have the files and not really any idea what to do with them. But I like to share. So here we are.

What you are hearing are just Courtney’s isolated vocal and guitar mics (with the obvious bleed from the rest of the band). I’ve muted everything else. This video I’ve borrowed from elsewhere on youtube and in trying to sync up my own audio I realized they were a little sloppy with their edit. But you get the idea.

To address the most obvious, inevitable question that I will be asked…this is not fake. Whether you think she’s the worst or this just makes her all the more “punk rock” is for you to decide. I’m merely presenting the facts as they are. Make of them what you will."

U2 Releases New Album Free

U2 have released their first album since 2009, Songs of Innocence, for free on Apple's iTunes

Irish superstars U2 have released their first album in five years free on Apple's iTunes as the tech giant unveiled its latest smartphones.

At a launch event near San Francisco, U2 played a single from the new album, Songs of Innocence, which Apple announced it had sent out for free to half a billion iTunes customers around the world.

Frontman Bono described the album, the band's first since No Line on the Horizon in 2009, as deeply personal and called the release "instant gratification".

"From the very beginning U2 have always wanted our music to reach as many people as possible, the clue is in our name I suppose - so today is kind of mind-blowing to us," Bono said.

"The most personal album we've written could be shared with half a billion people - by hitting send. If only songwriting was that easy."

Apple - which unveiled its first smartwatch as well as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus - said that it would gift the album for free to customers who set up iTunes accounts in the next five weeks.

U2 - who released some of the most acclaimed albums in the 1980s including The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum - could have expected major sales for a new album.

While Apple did not disclose financial arrangements for the free release, U2 has collaborated for years on products with the iPod and iPhone company.

U2 is also hardly hurting for money, with Bono's net worth estimated at $US600 million ($A649 million).

Bono has long advocated for greater spending to help the world's poor, although the band has also come under criticism for moving part of its business from Ireland to the Netherlands, which has lower taxation.
