8 Terrible Christmas Tunes

It's probably the only bad thing about Christmas....the awful music.

Christmas is a great time of year full of good food, holidays, presents and plenty of quality time with family and friends.

It puts everyone in a good mood, so for musicians they always seem to try in to tap into these emotions as fuel for the hackneyed 'Christmas song'.

For some reason, a lot of musicians just don't get it right. Maybe it's a cash grab or it's the cheesy sentiments or maybe there's just too much rum in the egg-nog, either way, Christmas music sucks.

So for your enjoyment, here's some of the worst ever Christmas music... ho ho ho.

Billy Idol - Jingle Bell Rock

It's like that scene out of Love Actually where Bill Nighy's ageing rocker character makes a christmas song. Except without all the sexy women. So basically it's just a sad old rock star singing a Jingle Bells. Come on Billy, you're better than this.

Gary Glitter - Another Rock n' Roll Christmas

Ok so Gary Glitter isn't necessarily the greatest artist, but the English glam star sure did a number on Christmas with this doozy.

Gary Glitter - "Another Rock n' Roll Christmas": 37smokeybear

New Kids On The Block - Funky, Funky, Xmas

Some how, "funky" and "xmas" just don't seem to work, despite how many times you say it.

New Kids On The Block - "Funky, Funky, Xmas": LINDA KNIGHT PERU

Cyndi Lauper - Christmas Conga

Wow Cyndi. No-one is having fun with your "Christmas Conga". Sounds like a track of a euro-dance party mix album.

Cyndi Lauper - "Christmas Conga": Khanê Abel

The Cheeky Girls - Have A Cheeky Christmas

At least the visual are good. Just turn the sound down..wayyyyyy down.

The Cheeky Girls - "Have A Cheeky Christmas": RememberTheCDSingle

Sufjan Stevens - Christmas Unicorn

Ok so Sufjan Stevens is quite well respected as a quirky indie dude but this track was way off the edge of "quirky" and "indie" into the obscure ironic hipster zone. Sorry Sufjan, if that even is your real name.

Sufjan Stevens "Christmas Unicorn": dylanbyronfoy

Jose Feliciano - Feliz Navidad

So modern popular Christmas songs are terrible in all countries?! Good to know.

Jose Feliciano - "Feliz Navidad": ognet

Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta - I Think I Like It

Oh please hell no!

Coldplay's Finish Up?

Chris Martin announces that their seventh LP will be their last.

Coldplay live: Getty Images

Coldplay are a pretty divisive band, you either love them or you hate them.

That's why, with Chris Martin announcing that their seventh LP A Head Full of Dreams due out next year will be "the completion of something" possibly signalling their final album, you may either be rejoicing or saddened by the news.

In a recent interview Martin let the news drop saying, "Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something." Going on to say, "I have to think of it as the final thing we're doing. Otherwise we wouldn't put everything into it."

As one of the biggest bands in the world it does sound like an interesting move for Martin to be disbanding arguably one of the biggest bands in the world.

They recently released a new track for Angelina Jolie's new film Unbroken called "Miracles".

So what's your thoughts, happy or sad that Coldplay might be finishing up?

The Basics Get Lucky

We're bloody excited to be bringing you this new song from an Aussie band we reckon is going places

Proving what 'old-school' fan love can do, an Aussie rock band called The Basics and their loyal fanbase got on social media to alert Triple M about their new song, "The Lucky Country". They tweeted our Music Director and the rest is history. See the tweet and Facebook post below.

They're The Basics. Their new song is called "The Lucky Country" and we reckon it sounds like an old school Aussie protest song. We love it! Watch the video below.

"Wally" De Backer, better known as Gotye, spoke to Triple M's Ugly Phil, saying the song works on two levels - it's about how lucky we are to live in Australia but let's not get too complacent about it.

"On the one hand… we are very fortunate and maybe sometimes we should be thankful for how good we do have it, " said Wally, on Triple M.

"But there's always a flip side… where we shouldn't become to self-interested and apathetic. Listen to the full interview below.

Billy Corgan's Outspoken Interview

On American radio 'The Howard Stern Show' Billy Corgan lets loose.

Billy Corgan, 90s alternative rock icon is not afraid to speak his mind: Getty Images

Never shy of controversy and speaking his mind, Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan was on American radio personality Howard Stern's show and has once again opened the flood gates.

The one hour interview ranged across a lot of material from the usual questions about his new album Monuments to an Elegy which was released yesterday to the more controversial topics of his opinions on artists and bands such as Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Courtney Love and more.

It's pretty interesting and open interview from a man who doesn't pull any punches. Listen to some select clips below.

Billy Corgan on competition in music and Pearl Jam.

"I love competition, that's why I grew up playing sports. That's one thing about alternative music people say it's supposed to be nice and namby-pamby, I love competition I think it's fantastic," Corgan said.

When asked if he thought if Pearl Jam were also in the same tier of 90s bands as Pumpkins and Nirvana Corgan said "not at all" citing he thought they were "derivative".

“I think if you stack my songs up; Cobain’s songs up and [Pearl Jam’s] songs and that bands songs, they don’t have the songs,” he said.

But he did go on to say that "they've gotten it done for a long time, I have to bow to that."

Corgan on evolution in music and not liking the Foo Fighters.

Howard Stern also asked him about his opinion of Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters.

"Dave is doing a good job as a Foo Fighter right?...You're not thrilled?" asked Stern.

"Not particularly," responded Corgan.

"Why? Because he was in Nirvana and you hold him to that standard?"

"Yeah I think that's fair," said Corgan.

He went on to say how he thought Dave was a "great musician" who's "done the work" but his major gripe with the Foo Fighters star was that he hasn't "evolved" in recent years saying that personal it was an important part of his "mentality" as an artist.

Corgan's hilarious story on how he met ex-girlfriend Courtney Love

He also talked about how he threw her out of his apartment after they broke up and how she then went to Kurt.

You can listen to the rest of the interview on The Howard Stern Show's soundcloud page.

New U2 Video For "Sleep Like A Baby Tonight"

Made by street artist ROA, the new clip is pretty dark.

New video for U2 - "Sleep Like A Baby Tonight": YouTube/U2VEVO

It's been a couple of months since U2 sneakily sent every Apple user their latest album Songs of Innocence in their questionable marketing campaign.

However, since then they've thankfully been going back to basics and no doubt laying low since Bono suffered an injury while biking in New York.

With the recent announce of their 2015 Innocence + Experience Tour, they've also released this dark and eerie video for their track "Sleep Like A Baby Tonight", made by street artist ROA.

It's actually a pretty good video and definitely one of the better songs on the album, maybe time to give it another listen?
