Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora have thrown their support behind a protest song intended as “a musical message of worldwide solidarity” to the people in Iran in light of that country’s controversial recent election.
The Bon Jovi stars feature in a re-recording of the classic “Stand By Me”, which has been made available as a free download.
In the new recording, also featuring an exiled Iranian superstar named Andy Madadian, Jon sings part of the first verse of the song in the Iranian language of Farsi. At the start of the accompanying YouTube video [see above], he also holds up a sign written in Farsi which translates to “we are one”.
A free MP3 download of the track is available HERE.
The track’s producer, Don Was, explained to Billboard magazine: “It is not for sale. It wasn’t intended to be on the charts, wasn’t meant to be a hit record or even pressed on a CD. It’s intended to be downloaded and shared by the Iranian people. The whole idea was to get it into Iran and tell them to carry on, that the world is watching and we’re with you.”
What do you think of the song and its message?
Jon and Richie get inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

We are having a hard time here, and by this song I can see great people like Bon Jovi think about us, and Iranian people especially the young ones are not forgotten!!!!!
This is one of the many questions in our heads every day that we wake up: where is justice? thank you for valuing us!
Hey Triple M, thanks so much for being a part of spreading the important message of this awesome version of Stand By Me!
I've been a Bon Jovi fan for over 20 years and Triple M never let me down on getting my Bon Jovi fix.
I love this version of the song and love the reason behind Bon Jovi being a part of it.
It's great when bands do awareness raising things like this, without trying to make money of it.
Keep up the great work Triple M, Kudos for giving fans the opportunity to grab this track!!
