JD Is Back With INXS! Post by: Dave-O 9 September, 2010 - 9:18 AM

INXS have announced that they will be playing at this year's AFL Grand Final as part of the pre-match entertainment.

And guess what - JD Fortune will be singing! INXS confirmed everything at a press conference today at the Sydney Cricket Ground ahead of their headlining gig at the AFL Grand Final.

Speaking to Triple M's Byron Cooke, INXS' Jon Farris and Kirk Pengilly revealed all. "JD is going to be singing with us at the AFL," said Farriss. "So we're primed up. We just came back from the States and he's coming to do the show. It's going to be great."

However, the band couldn't tell Byron who their full-time singer is. Which you would think for a rock band is a pretty simple question to answer!

Now we may be drawing a long bow here but could the below performance at today's event be their new sound?

Earlier on, the four members of INXS - Andrew, Jon & Tim Farriss and Kirk Pengilly - gave media an extra special performance. But rather than play their classic hits they did a self-described "drum opera" - an epic 4-minute space-jam drum instrumental with Kirk on keyboards and Andrew on maracas.

It was bizarre, but it rocked. But we still couldn't help think of Spinal Tap's "Jazz Odyssey"!

INXS will perform as the headline act at the 2010 Toyota AFL Grand Final on September 25.

I think it's great - but it's no surprise to hear JD is fronting this show.

Since February, INXS have done 5 shows (Vancouver, Townsville, Broome, Houston & San Francisco) & JD has fronted all of them.

He is the perfect fit for INXS - Kirk confirmed recently in an interview that JD is a permanent member of the band.

The whole issue from last year was misinterpreted by the media - things that JD said (or didn't say) were manipulated to make it look like JD said he was fired (which he did not say - he clarified that). They've put the whole misunderstanding behind them - that's precisely what it was, a misunderstanding, and moved on.

    No more need for speculation!

Well, of course JD is back with INXS. It is obvious to me that he is roit for the band!

And thanks Stacey for explaining what really happened, as you say, it was all a misunderstanding and I'm glad it has now been cleared up!

Couldn't agree more, JD is right for INXS and I think they know it. Hope there will be some other shows in Melbourne while they are here.

I love these guys... but its not a case of "media speculation". They are in the highly unusual situation of being a rock band who cant answer the simple question "who is the lead singer of your band?"

All they have said is he will be performing at the AFL Grand Final. No facts are being twisted around, at least not here!

Hey Byron, Stacey is right, Kirk did say on radio in Broome that JD is their permanent singer... but they continue to play their cards close to their chest where JD is concerned & try not to say that he is their permanent lead singer.

My take on it is, that they are protecting JD from too much hype because he didn't handle the "Fame & FORTUNE" very well last time around and the band are really trying hard to protect him from that.

But, we can all see now there's no-one else can front INXS better than JD, their perfomances, all with JD this year, in Vancouver, Townsville, Broome, Houston & San Francisco were fantastic.

Can't wait to see them at the AFL GF, great news!!

The fact is that JD has been working on his solo cd, "The Death of a Motivational Speaker", for a long time.

I think Inxs is afraid to finally commit to JD because eventually he is going on his own.

He has brought INXS back to life to new generations and that's wonderful, but he does have his own songs he wants to sing for the world! I love them too, they are great!

    You rock JD!

JD won't be going off on his own full time - he's too old! He's not far off 40... it's far more lucrative for him to stay with INXS and do his solo stuff in between INXS gigs.

Hey Beaumont, haven't ya heard? 40 is the new 20. That makes JD only 17.

Yeah yeah... I know... but seriously... JD would have a tough time becoming more popular than INXS on his own at 37 years of age - he still hasn't officially released any solo material (only a small amount of CDs to website subscribers). His best bet is to stick with INXS and do his solo stuff on the side. In 10 years INXS will be ready to hang in the towel and JD can simply keep on keeping on...
