Melbourne’s Huge Music Protest Post by: Eddie Ruckus 24 February, 2010 - 7:36 AM

It was all so eerily familiar – a rock band and a bunch of blokes with bagpipes on the back of a truck, cruising down Melbourne’s Swanston Street, bringing traffic to a stand still with a song called “It’s A Long Way To The Top”.

No, it wasn’t 1975, it was yesterday afternoon, as over 10,000 music fans in Melbourne heeded the call to let the local government know that new liquor an licensing laws were strangling the city’s legendary live music scene.

Dozens of local musicians, including Paul Kelly and Tim Rogers, were joined by music fans of all ages and descriptions in yesterday afternoon’s march, which ended on the steps of Victoria’s Parliament House.

While it was a festive show of force, the battle had already been won even before the march started.

Knowing they were in a fight they couldn’t win, the government announced earlier in the day that they will loosen the new laws where local live music venues are concerned.

Well done, Melbourne music fans – you truly rock!!

Were you there? How was it?

No one's made a comment? I'm stunned, how about this. People who don't like live music in pubs are people who like pokie music. They also think game boy music is in.

I have a solution to the fee for pubs, keep it how it is and tax the pokie people triple. It won't be long before they stop Big concerts at Ehad. Why, whinge, whinge, whinge, that's why.

    Long live The Pub Rock.
