Metallica Become Certified Legends Post by: Music 30 March, 2009 - 7:52 AM

Big week coming up for Metallica. On Saturday night, the band gets inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

Lars Ulrich is calling it “a sort of family reunion” and as a gesture of goodwill to everyone who’s helped build the Metallica legacy over the years, the band has invited all its ex-members to join them on stage for the celebration.

So ex-bassist Jason Newsted will be there for a jam. And so will Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine!!! Nah, only kidding about the Dave Mustaine bit. He was actually invited, but surprisingly said he’s got something else on and can’t make it. Funny, because Megadeth doesn’t have a show on this week. Must be washing his hair …

As part of the celebrations, Metallica is about to make the its whole back-catalogue available through digital download for the first time, and this week also sees the release of the band’s Guitar Hero game.

James Hetfield calls Guitar Hero “a great gateway drug to real music,” whatever that might mean.

Should Dave Mustaine get over it and join Metallica on stage for their Hall of Fame induction? Should any game be referred to as a “gateway drug”? What do you think?

I'm so happy for Metallica. I've been into them since Kill em all and I reckon they still put most of the newer metal bands to shame.

They are worthy inductees into the hall of fame as they are true pioneers of a genre of music. Saying that, I also think that the whole"hall of fame" thing is reaching overkill proportions with a lot of artists not only in the US but also in this country's ARIA hall of fame given induction for not much at all.

Metallica are worthy inductees but I think the hall of fame inductions should be held once every ten years so that only artists that had a profound effect on their generation be given consideration because lets face it some of the bands that have been inducted couldn't clean the shoes of some of their now "peers' and some other more worthy artists miss out.

Metallica what can I say? One of the best bloody bands that has walked the earth. How come it has taken so long to be inducted by the way?

I have been a massive fan for so long and agree with all above. They put a lot of new bands to shame even when they produce an album that everybody classes as average and it still rocks the absolute house down and sells about 20 million albums.

We should be playing more METALLICA!
