Pearl Jam gave the world the first taster from their next album last night by performing a new song live on the all-new Tonight Show hosted by Conan O’Brien in Los Angeles.
The song is called “Got Some” and host Conan O’Brien confirmed the new album, due in September, will be called Backspacer. Conan even held up a copy of the cover to give everyone a sneak peak.
Backspacer, Pearl Jam’s ninth studio album, is their first as an indie band after splitting with their long-time label, Sony, following the release of last year’s self-titled LP.
The first single from the new album, rumoured to be a track called “The Fixer”, will be released in July, while the album is pencilled in for a September 18 release.
Rolling Stone also reported this morning that Backspacer was the name of a 375-kilogram female sea turtle that Pearl Jam sponsored in the Great Turtle Race in April, in which 11 of the giant animals were tracked as they travelled from Canada to the Caribbean to lay their eggs. Backspacer won, followed by R.E.M.’s Nightswimmer.
