We have some very exciting news about Pearl Jam. They could be here for the Big Day Out!

At this stage it's still a hot rumour, but how good would it be if it was true?

Triple M music reporter James Young, who runs the Cherry Bar in AC/DC Lane in Melbourne, broke the exciting rumour on Triple M Melbourne's The Hot Breakfast this morning. "The word is that the Big Day Out next year could [see] Pearl Jam in every [major capital] city in Australia. This would be a huge coup," he said.

One man who is sceptical of the grunge legends doing the BDO is one of Pearl Jam's biggest fans, Triple M Brisbane's Johnno Keetels.

"Since they were involved in the tragedy at Roskilde Festival in 2000, Pearl Jam have stated many times that they’d be very reluctant to play any festivals at all," he said.

"It would be hugely surprising if they were part of a Big Day Out tour."

Pearl Jam haven't been in Australia since 2009 and this year we were teased with a solo tour by their lead singer Eddie Vedder.

Last weekend, Pearl Jam celebrated their 20th year together with the PJ Twenty concert - a two-day festival in Alpine Valley, USA where they played with Chris Cornell, Queens of the Stone Age, Liam Finn, The Strokes and more.

How much do you wanna see Pearl Jam play the Big Day Out?
