Powderfinger's Electric Brisbane Show Post by: Dave-O 5 September, 2010 - 10:45 AM
Wow! What a night. Bernard Fanning said it himself: this was "Brisbane's night of nights". And according to Triple M's Jo Lynch Powderfinger's first farewell gig at the Riverstage was simply "electric!".
Organisers treated fans to an awesome display of fireworks and it set the mood perfectly. It was time to party!
"They opened with "Love Your Way" [and] this was soon followed by "Thrilloilogy" from Double Allergic, and current favourites "Burn Your Name" and "Sail The Wildest Stretch"," reported Lynch.
"They had a second stage set up in the middle of the hill and how they were going to get there had everyone guessing. They then proved what a down-to-earth band they are by walking straight through the middle of their worshipping crowd. Nothing rockstar about it. Ha! Awesome."
They were clearly appreciative of Brissie's support over the past 20 years even making references to days slogging it out at the Hotel Orient.
"At one stage the emotion seemed to get the better of [drummer] Cogsy who Bernard jokingly accused of 'playing the emo card!'," said Lynch.
"The show rocked, with moments of sadness realising this is a show we may never see again... And then it rocked some more!"
"As the riverfire f1-11 dump and burn soared high into the night sky, it was symbolic of Powderfinger's decision to call it a day, choosing to burn out rather than fade away."
