Big Day Out 2012… another great year at the Sydney Showground in Homebush. Who would have thought it would get this big, 20 years ago when Nirvana took the stage at the Hordern Pavilion?

The day started with The Jezabels on the main arena. The crowd was there nice and early, so much so I couldn’t get in the D!

Boy & Bear were good! Perfect time to have them in the main arena, while Faker is still a crowd favourite.

The Living End are always bloody good, proving once again why they are one of the best live bands in Australia. But Kasabian surprisingly were the best act of the day. Everyone was talking about them at the end of the night and I developed a new respect for them.

Aussie hip hop outfit, Hilltop Hoods got the crowd fired up and the view from the grandstand was amazing. While, Foster The People's keyboard-driven indie pop proved they should've been on the main stage. They sounded exactly the same, if not better live, than they do on record.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds played a really chilled out set. He was good and really... funny! At one point he tackled a heckler's request for him to play "Champagne Supernova" by screaming "This is not Oasis!". However, he did finish off his set with Oasis favourite "Don't Look Back In Anger", which saw the crowd lose their minds!

I have to admit Soundgarden started a bit half-baked with their best song, "Spoonman" falling pretty flat. But from then on it was all systems go. Their set was similar to the one they did for their headline show at the Sydney Entertainment Centre the night before playing all the hits from Badmotorfinger, Superunknown and Down On The Upside.

Singer Chris Cornell put down his guitar for "My Wave" and wailed on vocals, while during the pumping "Jesus Chris Pose" Ben Shepherd ripped into a bass solo and went nuts!

Finally, I gotta give it to superstar rapper Kanye. Sure he’s a dick, but he’s an entertainer. I’ve never seen the main arena so packed!

Did you go? What was your highlight?
