Them Crooked Vultures Day Post by: Eddie Ruckus - Rockin' Blogger 13 November, 2009 - 7:56 AM

ELEPHANTS by Them Crooked Vultures

Four months ago, no one had ever heard of Them Crooked Vultures. Today, Aussie music fans become the first people on Earth able to buy the supergroup’s self-titled debut.

Following on from four months of virtual media silence, the trio have gone on something of a media splurge. This week they feature on the covers of the local edition of Rolling Stone, as well as NME in London.

In the NME story, the three members – Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones – have shared the bizarre story of how they got together.

It started in September last year when Grohl was in London, presenting Led Zeppelin with an award. Grohl says he got pissed and told Jones he wanted to form a band.

Once the Led Zep reunion fell over, Jones gave Grohl a call and Dave invited him over to LA to his birthday party in January at a theme restaurant called Medieval Times.

Homme says he couldn’t believe what was happening. “Dave never mentioned John to me until December and I didn’t even believe him until January. What was good about Medieval Times was that there was no risk about pretension. It broke the ice. With a lance.”

Grohl adds: “For 20 years people have asked me what my dream band line-up is. And now I can say I’m in it.”

Most of us have already heard the album , so what do you think? Who will go out and buy it today?
