UPDATE: U2 have announced second shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Tickets go on sale September 10.
It's happening. It's really happening. U2 are coming to Australia!
Promoters Live Nation and Michael Coppel confirmed the amazing news this morning when they officially announced the dates for U2's Aussie tour.
Following the band's triumphant return in Italy earlier this month after Bono's back surgery, the U2 360° Tour will play in four cities around Australia including Perth, which will be their first show there since 1998's Popmart tour.
Bono has promised fans that these Aussie shows will be extra special.
"There's a whole set of songs we have for Australia, which will probably be played for the first time. So that's going to make it extra special for us," said Bono.
While U2 manager Paul McGuinness says the band can't wait to bring their extraordinary rock production to Australia.
"U2 [is] at their best when surrounded by their audience. It was important that we were able to bring the whole 360° production to Australia so fans could experience the latest of U2's legendary productions."
However, Adelaide miss out again. And judging by the reaction following Bon Jovi's snub, this is sure to get fans really fired up. And who can blame them.
Tickets start from a very reasonable $39.90, while additional reserved seat tickets start at $99.90.
Tickets go on sale Friday, September 3rd at all usual outlets. U2.com subscribers will be able to buy tickets ahead of the public on-sale. Go to www.u2.com for more details.

Please... if you are going promote this tour, please promote my Facebook petition group to bring them to Adelaide.
Adelaide did this in 2006 and we can do it again... no more bands by passing us.

Coppell and Live Nation must as usual be commended for supporting live music throughout this country. South Australia just does exist in their universe. Could it be related to the merger of Live Nation and Ticketmaster in the USA and Ticketmaster not having a presence in SA? Only 50,000 saw them last time so it cannot be based on lack of audience.

My 1st ever U2 concert, I'm still Shocked, in awe can't bloody believe the greatest band in the world is coming to our shores once again, and I'm ready enough to go.... ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
Though it's a shame they're only playing 1 show in each city.
