The Best Upcoming Aussie Acts Right Now

For Oztober we're celebrating the best Aussie upcoming acts. Here are four you need to know.

All of October we're celebrating Oztober - a month long celebration of Australian music and the legendary bands that make it.

We decided to put a little list together of the 'best upcoming Aussie acts right now' so, despite being very hard to narrow it down, we've selected four of the best... in no particular order.

Bad // Dreems - Hoping For

Bad//Dreems are blokey pub-rock for the 21st century. The Adelaide boys have had a meteoric rise in popularity since their inception in 2012. If you like beer, footy and red dirt landscapes set to catchy alternative rock, these guys are for you.

Bad//Dreems - Hoping For

City Calm Down - Pleasure and Consequence

City Calm Down blend of dark new-wave synth-rock immediately brings comparisons to classic acts like Joy Division and The Cure but the indie four piece are carving out their own style with some impressive song writing that's different to anything out there at the moment.

Gang Of Youths - Benevolence Riots

Sydney four-piece Gang of Youths epitomise the resurgent rock scene in Australia with their jagged guitar riffs and heavy hitting drum lines. With only a few years under their belt the band has already released their debut album and toured throughout Europe and America, setting themselves up for an illustrious career.

Evol Walks - Buzzed

Aussie hard rock act Evol Walks are a fairly new force on the music scene forming in 2014 but already making a name for themselves as a band to watch. Their modern take on the classic rock and roll sound developed by their idols like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin put them in good stead for the future.

Cold Chisel's Massive News!

Get all the official info for Cold Chisel's new album and tour

Music fans rejoice, Australian rock royalty, the iconic Cold Chisel have announced a brand new album called... The Perfect Crime.

It's out this Friday, and it's Chisel's eighth studio album, bringing our first new taste of the iconic band's music since 2012's No Plans.

REVIEW: Perfect Crime - Cold Chisel

Triple M Brisbane' Mitch Braund says the new album finds them in a different headspace to their last album No Plans (2012).

"After the passing of drummer Steve Prestwich, the band had the realisation they had wasted too much time not making music together," said Mitch.

"The Perfect Crime is a more considered affair with chief songwriter Don Walker, for the first time in many years, taking time out to write a Cold Chisel album.

"The result is an album that includes some of the most straight out rock n roll songs the band have ever made.

""All For You" is bar room boogie at its best while "The Backroom" is a straight out rocker.

"Producer Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin) knows how to push this band. They set out to make a rock record and that’s what they got. Chisel still manage to find new boundaries push though.

""Bus Station" is classic soul with drummer Charley Drayton laying down a mean groove. "Mexican Wedding", a co-write between Don, Mossy and Phil Small, will make you feel you’re in, well Mexico.

"While "Lost" hosts strings for the first time on a Chisel recording.

"The Perfect Crime yet again shows that as special as each member of Cold Chisel is in their own right, it’s the sum of the parts that make this band so very special."

Tracklisting: "Alone For You", "The Backroom", "All Hell Broke Lucy", "The Perfect Crime", "Long Dark Road", "Four In The Morning", "The Mansions", "The Toast Of Paris", "Shoot The Moon", "Mexican Wedding", "Get Lucky", "Bus Station", "Lost".

Guns N' Roses Guitarist Severely Injured

Richard Fortus will now miss the upcoming Aussie tour for his band The Dead Daisies

(Image via Getty)

“A bit of a motorcycle accident” Guns N’ Roses guitarist Richard Fortus described of his horror accident last week.

“A bit”?

Fortus, in an public statement said:

“On September 17, 2015 I was involved in a motorcycle accident. As a result, I broke my shoulder blade, collar bone, six ribs, a toe, I have a bruised lung, lacerated liver and a concussion. Amazingly, my doctors have assured me that I will make a full recovery.”

Mate, that’s a bit more than a bit.

And all these injuries have ruled him out for the Aussie tour of his side band The Dead Daisies’, which will see them supporting KISS.

“I’m devastated that I will not be able to play for the Australian and New Zealand fans who have been so supportive and loyal,” said Fortus.

“I have never missed a show in my entire career, and, unfortunately, I will have to miss the entire Australian and New Zealand leg.”

Get well soon, Richard Fortus!

And tell the Gunners to hurry up and get that original line-up cranking!

Oasis Reunion FOR REAL

Liam & Noel Gallagher "kiss and make up for tour".

(Image via Getty)

Oasis. Is. Back.

After a massive (and often hilarious) feud between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, the boys have “kissed and made up”, and are planning a massive comeback tour after a strict six-year hiatus.

A source close to the band told UK’s Daily Star that the reunion and comeback tour “has been discussed seriously – it’s only a matter of time.

“It’s looking so certain it is worth betting on for next year,” said the source.

The brothers reportedly settled their differences at a family wedding in Ireland earlier in the year.

Noel famously quit the band in a rage mere hours before they were due to play at the massive Paris’ Rock On Seine festival, left Liam, and formed a brand new band.

Earlier in the year Noel was asked if he’d succumb to the increasing pressure from brother Liam and Paul McCartney to get him to rejoin Oasis. But Noel wasn’t having any of it, saying:

I don’t give a fuck about what anybody called Paul has to say about anything. I’m really tired of that question.”

But the brothers, along with band mates Andy Bell and Gem Archer, have been in “serious talks” about the reunion.

The source said: “Other bands have reunited and had a fantastic payday, so it make sense for everyone involved.”

And an Oasis reunion would definitely make it rain those sweet dollar bills, man.

“On our day we were great. People are there now at my concerts that weren’t even born then and they are crying at Oasis songs. All over the world people are still in massively in love with that band – and none more so than me,” concludes Noel.

Dave Grohl Is A Legend...Again

He even brought her onstage to sign her cast after the gig!

(Screenshot via Youtube)

“This one [Big Me], I usually dedicate to the road crew, and the people who built the throne, and all that bullshit… [but] I’m going to sing this one for the little lady who broke her leg too, how ‘bout that?” said Grohl to the audience when he spotted another unfortunate broken-leg victim in the audience.

He then asked her how she broke her leg, responding:

“In the pool! What?! Man! Can I sign your cast? Will you sing mine too? This one goes out to you. I can’t [sign] it right now, I’m on the clock. But I’m going to get it later.”

“This is an old song I’m going to sing for the little lady with the broken leg, because nobody wants a fuckin’ broken leg man!,” he sympathized before busting into Foo’s classic ‘Big Me’.

And to top it all off in the ‘Ultimate Life Dreams Come True’ department, Grohl returned at the end of the show, found the little one through the crowd, and they signed each others’ casts.

Pretty. Bloody. Adorable.

Foo's Cover "Whole Lotta Love"

One of the weirdest Foo collaborations yet.

(Screenshot via Youtube)

The Foo’s have been cranking a massive succession of weird collaborations lately.

But this one just came out of nowhere.

At a recent gig in Arizona, Dave Grohl invited none other than 90’s pop-folk artist Jewel to join the band onstage for a rowdy as cover of Led Zeppelin’s massive “Whole Lotta Love”

You’d be expecting “some nice thing” (as Dave put it) from a Jewel duet, but Jewel decided against that pre-show apparently.

“She says to me, ‘I don’t want to do that’, “ says Grohl in the clip.

“She says, ‘I wanna do THIS,’” - * massive riff explosion*

Apparently Jewel had to write some of the lyrics on the palm of her hand – but heck, you gotta do what you gotta do in the name of rock.

WATCH Pearl Jam & Colbert Cover Neil Young

Check out Eddie Vedder and Colbert perform 'Rockin' In The Free World'

“ONE MORE SONG! ONE MORE SONG! ONE MORE SONG!” chanted Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s audience to Pearl Jam after their first appearance.

And their demands worked!

Jumping back on stage, Pearl Jam performed ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’ by Neil Young – also joined by Stephen Colbert himself!

Both Eddie Vedder and Colbert look like they are having the time of their lives!

Colbert genuinely rocked out and shows off some serious vocals and frontman moves.

There was a wee bit of a f***-up around the “We got a thousand points of light” verse, but Vedder and Colbert save it with some smoooooth improvisation. You'll see.

Check out both the Pearl Jam/Colbert cover of 'Rockin' In The Free World', and their opening Lightning Bolt track 'Mind Your Manners' below.

'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Named Most Iconic Song

Queen, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and The Who also made it to the Top 50 list.

(Image via Getty)

Science has gone next level on us and ruled that Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ is the most iconic song EVER.

Computer analysis of some of music history’s most well loved hits found some pretty common characteristics between what's a hit and what’s a miss – well, mathematically anyway.

According to the study, most hits have around 120 beats per minute, use fewer chord progressions, and tend to have a high level of tonal variation while using similar keys.

Though researchers do warn, there is no ‘magic formula’ for writing a hit.

“We looked at a range of measures for each song and compared them to see if there were similarities in these recordings which occur less in other songs,” said Dr Grierson.

His research and analysis produced a list of scientifically determined top 50 of most iconic songs of all time.

What is considered iconic is ultimately up to the individual,” says Dr Grierson.

If you want a formula for creating great music, there is one: you just have to make something that sounds great,” he concludes.

Well, cheers mate.
I wonder how long it took him to finally come to that groundbreaking conclusion?

Music comes from the soul, man.
And, admittedly, there’s a whooooole bunch of soul up in this list.

But the numbers, they just can't compete with the connection we all feel with our favorites - "iconic" or not.

"I Will Retire" If Gunners Reunite - Corey Taylor

"I will believe it when I buy the ticket." - Corey Taylor

(Image via Getty)

So this whole Gunners reunion rumours have set the music industry alight with both speculation and exhilaration.

But Corey Taylor is positively losing it at the possibility – or at least, possibly losing a touring career over it.

Dude, I would retire from touring,” Taylor told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

I will believe it when I buy the ticket, let’s put it that way. I mean, because nobody gets more excited about the thought of the [original] Appetite For Destruction line-up…I wouldn’t want to go up against that,” he added.

Taylor continued by reminiscing about seeing Guns N’ Roses open for Aerosmith in ’86, saying “They were the…they were my Rolling Stones. You know, They were my rock’n’roll band. And they always will be,” he said.

Even as Axl tries to kill the name,” he concludes.
