The Hot Breakfast

AFL Football's Untouchables Post by: Eddie McGuire 5 November, 2009 - 7:53 AM

In the next three seasons the new Gold Coast and Western Sydney team will have a free grab at your clubs best players.

The AFL has agreed that the new teams will get an advantage in the first pick drafts as well as the chance to pick up uncontracted players that want to go.

It's a horrible to think any of your best young brigade that you've spent years moulding into your team could get snapped up by these new interstate teams. We want you to pick a player that would be the last player that you would be prepared to give up.

Tony Moclair says as a mad Blues fan he would never get rid of Jarrod Waite and Hot Breakfast guest and Magpie fan, Mark Skaife reckon Scott Pendlebury is the one player they would hang on to.

Who is your clubs untouchable player?

As all Saints fans know, Nick Riewoldt originally came from the Gold Coast, so there's a chance he might be attracted to going back. He is definitely one plyer we dont want to lose.

Paddy Ryder is the Bombers player that we should hang onto at all costs. He is so courageous and really shows what Essendon stands for.

Just amazed at how much the brand AFL has taken over rather than the promotion of the actual game of Australian Rules. Call me a tradionalist, but why are we bombarded by "play AFL" marketing, e.g. AFL NSW, AFL QLD, etc... ?
I'm all for promoting & extending our great game, but most kids will never play AFL - they will all have a chance to play Aussie Rules.
Please AFL, put some time, effort, marketing &, more importantly
money, into grass roots footy. This is where the future of the game as a whole is!
The AFL is so intent on its own brand & expansion it has (conveniently?) forgotten what the true meaning of Australian Rules is.
    Tony.
