Draft Becomes Black & White Ball Post by: Luke Darcy 27 November, 2009 - 8:23 AM
Melbourne Demons have picked up the two top drafts by picking Tom Scully and Jack Trengove as the first and second choices.
The other big news is that former st.Kilda captain Luke Ball is going to Collingwood at the number 30 pick.
Highlights from this year's NAB AFL Draft include:
91 players were added to AFL lists, including 68 new players, six recycled from AFL clubs and 17 promoted rookies since the conclusion to the 2009 season.
The new players recruited to AFL clubs tonight included:
8 indigenous players among the 68 new players
36 players are from Victoria (17 metro and 19 country)
14 from Western Australia
9 from South Australia
3 from Tasmania
2 from Queensland (in addition to the five pre-signings for the Gold Coast Football Club)
3 from Northern Territory
1 NSW/ACT
There are 12 players in total from the AIS-AFL Academy. A further 10 AIS/Academy players have been taken as pre-selections by the Gold Coast Football Club as part of the club’s draft concessions for the 2011 year.
Six AFL players got a second chance – Luke Ball (St Kilda to Collingwood), Rhan Hooper (Brisbane to Hawthorn, Jesse Smith (North Melbourne to St Kilda), Adam Pattison (Richmond to St Kilda), Simon Buckley (Melbourne to Collingwood) and Matt Maguire (St Kilda to Brisbane)
Geelong Falcons had three players selected in the first round Ben Cunnington at number five to North Melbourne, Gary Rohan at number six to the Sydney Swans and Jasper McMillan-Pittard at 16 at Port Adelaide.
Luke describes what it's like to be picked up by Collingwood.

As a Saints fan, I reckon that Collingwood have got the best deal ever. I know we had given Luke the rough end of the stick, but it is still hard to take he's gone to the Magpies.

Well, here comes the Dees, the first and second move in getting a great club back on the tracks. I wish Tom and Trent all the best and welcome to big time.

I know medi, penders and fraser weren't in the side vs geelong in the preliminary final. You add jolly and ball to those players and put them into the current side, Collingwood wil be giving the flag a red hot shake in 2010 that's for sure!
