Eddie McGuire Accepts Challenge To Run The Boston Marathon! Got Some Training Tips For Him? Post by: The Hot Breakfast 10 October, 2011 - 8:39 AM

Remember this video Mick unearthed which showed Eddie jogging in the 80s? Get ready for a sequel ...

A visit from former world champion marathon runner Robert De Castella threw up a surprise challenge for Eddie this morning; he's agreed to run the Boston marathon in 6 months time!

He told The Hot Breakfast about a project he launched last year to involve Aboriginal men and women in marathon running, both here in Australia and in the New York marathon.

Eddie admitted that he'd been doing some heavy duty training of his own; "sitting on the couch watching the TV." But that wasn't good enough for Mr De Castella!

He said "if these indigenous kids can go from not even knowing what a marathon was, and you've already admitted that you do know what it is ... my challenge would be to get you to the finish line."

Mick criticised Eddie for rolling out the excuses from the get go; "I'm in the worst condition of my life at the minute ... remember I get up at 4 in the morning and work and do a few things ..."

Eddie's wife Carla also had concerns over his fitness, sending him a message to say "you can't afford to die yet."

The Boston Marathon is the oldest annual race in the world, attracting more than 20,000 runners. Let's hope Eddie can beat a few of them!

De Castella has offered to put together a training programme for Eddie - but he needs all the help he can get.

Got some training tips or words of wisdom for him?
