"Am I having a secret relationship with Martina Navratilova? No I'm absolutely not." Mieke said on Triple M's The Hot Breakfast this morning.

Mick Molloy's response? "Damn!"

Mieke was responding to a photo that has appeared in press around the world today of her giving Martina Navratilova a kiss after catching up for lunch.

Mieke went on to say, "She has a girlfriend who's an ex Russian Miss Universe with two kids."

"You know what I think is actually a shame about a story like this."

"I actually do have some fantastic lesbian mates and a lot of them have really struggled with coming out and talking about their sexuality."

"They're trying to make it sound like some secret clandestine thing. Young kids really struggle with this stuff all the time and it's because of stories like this."

"This is the beat up of all beat ups."

When international media asked Mieke about her relationship with Martina, this is what she had to say:

"She's a phenomenal individual. She has busted barriers. She is the Beatles of lesbians. but again, no, there is no relationship with Martina."

"There are countless teenagers who are petrified of coming out, in case their family and friends don't accept them for who they are."

"In this case, I've been falsely 'outed' for kissing a female friend, who just happens to be gay, goodbye."

"Which makes me even more protective and supportive of my friends who've had to manage the challenges of being out and gay."

"A dear friend has tried to commit suicide, multiple times, because their family rejected them after they came out."

"For them, and other people like them, I'm happy to take a few knocks on this topic."

"Being gay is not a disease. And its nothing to be ashamed of."

"10% of people in the Australian population are gay. Someone you know is."

"Why marginalise and discriminate against anyone that you know."

"One day it could be your brother, your sister, your child."

  Well said, I am not gay but believe each to their own and know a number of people who are. This doesn't change my opinion of them as a person so struggle to understand why people can not accept them for who they are. I think people like yourself in the media and spotlight putting it out there will hopefully take the so called stigma away from being gay and let the people who are struggling with coming out, take that step without feeling they will be shunned by others. Steve

  My daughter has "recently come out", personally I hate that term. My feeling is that who she chooses as a partner and what she chooses to do in the bedroom, to put it bluntly is, none of my god damn business! She is living a happy and fulfilling life, thats all i care about. These families that turn on their children because of a simple lifestyle choice, they are the ones with a problem.
