The reaction from Cage listeners
Melbourne City In Uproar Over Brig's Decision To Change Teams.
On Monday Brigitte confessed to Cage listeners that she "felt a need for Eade" and proposed her conundrum: stay with the blues or do it doggy style?
A very attentive Western Bulldogs coach, Rodney 'Rocket' Eade, was straight onto the Triple M hotline: "I can understand why you'd want to change, we're an exciting side" but "we're a bit short on high-profile female supporters and you'd fit in quite well".
A follow-up call from Bulldog Scott West promised Brigi's favourite drop of wine, Pinot Gris, would be on tap at the kennel and her interest was definitely piqued.
With the trade offers on the table from her potential new club, Carlton legend and Vice President Stephen Kernahan dropped off a beautiful hamper for his number one girl because "the board's in crisis mode and we have a lot of love to give you"; then offered the added benefit "of a package of Walker, Simpson, Murphy and Gibbs to use at your disposal".
The stakes were hotting up and two young guns from the doggies visited Brigitte in the studio on Thursday morning with freshly picked roses. Adam Cooney and Ryan Griffen acted as Brigi's man-servants for the entire show, making her breakfast, giving her a double foot massage and generally just being their lovely selves. Cooney countered Sticks' offer and ensured the entire Western Bulldogs list would be at Brigitte's disposal. Duclos was speechless and almost made her decision on the spot.
Friday was D-Day, however, and following a late visit from Western Bulldogs CEO, Campbell Rose, Brigi had to make her decision, while enjoying a portion of the four foot high block of chocolate just presented to her.
"It is with a heavy heart that I make this decision on behalf of all Victorians. For years football fans have been living in fear, terrified of repercussions might they want to change allegiances. I would like to lead the charge. It's all about freedom of choice. Carlton are a fine establishment, a team of fine young gentlemen. But it is a woman's prerogative to change her mind, so my new team is the mighty red white and blue."
The listeners had to have their say, with thousands of calls jamming the switchboard, incensed that Brigitte was even thinking of turning. Cries of 'un-Victorian' and 'turncoat' heard across the suburbs, plus one irate listener demanded Brigi "has to be sacked".
The vitriol left her undeterred and welcomed No.2 Bulldog Robert Murphy with opened arms as he presented Brigi with her very own Guernsey. Newly elected Kangaroos board member, James Brayshaw, was horrified, hanging his head in shame on behalf of Victoria, saying to Brig: I've never had an enormous amount of time for you anyway. But now I have none"
Have your say - Did Brig do the right thing?
