Adelaide has overcome a slow start to beat the Fremantle Dockers in a thrilling semi-final at AAMI Stadium on Friday night, with Taylor 'Tex' Walker booting five goals.

The Dockers led by 16 points at quarter-time and 13 points at the main break before the Crows hit back to carry a four-point lead heading onto the final term.

Fremantle booted the first two goals in the last quarter, but the Crows steadied and Walker slotted two final-quarter majors as Ross Lyon's side was knocked out of the finals after a brave run in the second half of the season.

However, Crows livewire Jared Petrenko was 'in tears' in the rooms post-match after he sustained a shoulder injury that may rule him out for the rest of the year.

There was also some talk on Triple M Footy about the disappointing crowd, with only 31,742 attending the cut-throat final.

The Crows will now meet Hawthorn at the MCG next Saturday evening.

Adelaide 12.9 (81) defeated Fremantle 11.5 (71)
