VIDEO: Wayne Carey Tells Melbourne's The Hot Breakfast He's "Shattered" By Newspaper Report Of Prison Cocaine Testing Post by: Triple M 2 February, 2012 - 8:43 AM
Wayne Carey joined The Hot Breakfast in the Melbourne studio this morning to respond to a story in The Herald Sun about cocaine traces being found on him during a routine visitor test at Barwon Prison.
"To be honest Eddie I'm shattered", he told us.
Carey had visited the prison yesterday to speak to inmates.
"When I got there yesterday, went through - the lady that actually, when you go through the machine, she said to me. I said 'look, happy to do whatever you want me to do', I said 'trust me there's nothing going on'" he told us.
"She said 'no no, don't worry about it.' She said 'it's happened to me twice myself.' She said 'not a concern', we actually signed in to go in - she said that's how little they took of the machine."
"So we actually signed to go into the prison, we sat down for another couple of minutes, and then they said 'ah, we can't let you in' and I said 'what for?'"
"The paper says today about doing a strip search, Eddie - I would have taken everything off. I would have let them just about do anything to me to prove that ... I said I'd be happy to wee in a cup."
"I certainly haven't taken drugs, not taking drugs, and this has just blown my mind and I just can't believe that this story can be front page of the paper, and I'm now I'm sitting here talking to you now."
Eddie asked; "I just want to confirm that you offered a urine sample?"
Wayne replied "I would wee in a cup now, would have wee'd in a cup yesterday, was never offered to wee in a cup and was never offered to do a strip search."
Eddie asked him "do you think this sets you back?"
"I'd be lying Eddie if I didn't say it sets you back, it does. I sit here with emotions running through me right now and you want to go and hide in a hole, but you know you just can't do that."
Wayne continued "OK yes I did go through, yes it did say there was a sample. Now as the guy said, you know there could be a grain of sand, it could be on the bottom of your shoe that it detects. I can guarantee you I certainly haven't taken drugs and I was more than willing to have any strip search, and as I said wee in a cup to prove that there were no drugs."
Luke Darcy asked him "within yourself, how good are you feeling at the moment, do you feel as though your life's absolutely where you want it to be?"
"Until this morning Darc, I feel better than ever and that's the honest to god truth. Everything's going in the right direction, I'm busy with work I've got a few other investments and a few other interests outside of even football, so everything's going fantastically well."
"As I said I've woken up this morning excited to take my daughter to school with Sally and now this, so. I'll get through it and you have to get through it."
