Brendon Goddard Looks Set To Be At Essendon For The Next Four Years
Brendon Goddard looks a strong chance to end up at Essendon now after the Bombers reportedly offered him a four-year deal.
UPDATE: St Kilda has confirmed it has received notification from the AFL that an offer has been made to Brendon Goddard by Essendon Football Club under new free agency rules.
Essendon CEO Ian Robson said the Club would now respect the free agency process before making any further comment.
"By the way not great news for St Kilda fans this morning, Brendon Goddard will sign with Essendon today. It's done. He'll be the first player on the free agency to go," Eddie McGuire said on Triple M Melbourne's The Hot Breakfast on Monday morning.
EARLIER: Brendon Goddard looks a strong chance to end up at Essendon now after the Bombers reportedly offered him a four-year deal.
Goddard will let St Kilda know he has received a four-year offer from the Bombers which is one year longer than the Saints offered him.
Both the Herald Sun and The Age report the Essendon deal is also worth more to 'BJ' in terms of annual salary than St Kilda's three-year contract on offer.
If Essendon's deal is agreed to by Goddard he and the Bombers must notify the AFL.
After the league is notified the Saints will have three days to decide whether they will match the offer.
But even if St Kilda offers a new deal, which most commentators say is unlikely, Goddard doesn't have to accept that and can then nominate for the AFL draft or ask for a trade.
If Goddard goes to Essendon the Saints will probably receive a first-round pick as compensation.
