UPDATE: The Brisbane Lions have released a statement in relation to the car versus bike accident the club's skipper, Jonathan Brown, was in on Tuesday:
"Brisbane Lions can confirm captain, Jonathan Brown, was involved in an accident with a vehicle while riding his bike on the Gold Coast early this morning."
"Brown was riding with a group of about 20 cyclists when the accident occurred in the Currumbin Valley. He was taken a nearby hospital where he had a thorough check up - including scans - and was cleared of any serious injury."
"He received 10 stitches to an elbow. Brown has contacted club officials personally and notified them that he is OK."
"The Lions would like to thank its many members who contacted the Club expressing their concern for Brown's health and wellbeing."
EARLIER: Brisbane Lions gun Jonathan Brown has been taken to hospital after he was hit by a car on the Gold Coast.
News Limited reports Brown was riding his bike through the Tallebudgera Valley when he was hit by a car.
Brown was able to walk soon after the accident but was taken by ambulance to hospital with an elbow injury.
The veteran Lion, who has had a bad run with injuries the past few years, is renowned as one of the league's toughest players.
The Hyundai that hit him required a tow truck, which will no doubt spark jokes about how a car was worse of after the collision!
The Brisbane Lions are aware of the reports about Brown and "are currently gathering information and will report further once we know more".
