Ken Hinkley will put 'pen to paper' on Monday to be the new Port Adelaide coach, says Triple M's Warren Tredrea.

Meanwhile, Brett Ratten - once a candidate for the Port job - has signed up as an assistant coach with Hawthorn after Leon Cameron left the Hawks to be an assistant coach at the GWS Giants and then take the senior role in 2014 when Kevin Sheedy stands aside.

Hawks Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson was delighted to announce Ratten's appointment.

"Brett is an excellent addition to our coaching line-up and will bring a great deal of experience and coaching nous to our Club," Clarkson said.

"With Leon Cameron's recent departure, it's pleasing that a coach of Brett's calibre can step in immediately and I'm sure he will complement our team of coaches well."

Ratten, 41, said he was thrilled to be joining the Hawks.

"It's an honour to join the Club and I'm really excited to have the opportunity to work with Alastair and the other assistant coaches," Ratten said.

"I really respect how they play the game and I see this as a great opportunity for me and one I’m really looking forward to."
