Triple M Lands A Big Fish Post by: Triple M Footy 17 November, 2009 - 4:34 PM

Triple M has announced that Rex Hunt, Australia's most successful AFL caller for the past decade, will join its already stellar on-air footy team in 2010.

Rex Hunt is set to become an integral part of Triple M’s prime AFL calls on Saturday afternoons.  He replaces Brian Taylor who has decided to leave after 13 seasons with Triple M.

Rex is Australia’s most experienced radio football caller and joins a line-up of football calling greats in James Brayshaw, Garry Lyon, Danny Frawley and Dr Peter Larkins.

Rex Hunt said of the move, 'The offer from MMM, to continue my broadcasting career with the main team, has given me a new lease of life.'

'I am honoured to have been asked to call with such a wonderful team, that I have admired and respected for many years.'

'I am delighted to be able to continue my career in football, a journey that spans 42 years of playing and broadcasting on radio.'

'I look forward to this new position with great energy and playing my part in the overall team performance.'

Austereo General Manager Ben Amarfio said, 'While we’re sorry to see Brian go, we couldn’t be happier with our replacement in Rex who has been the biggest footy caller for several years.'

'Rex is committed to re-inventing himself when he makes the move to Triple M and we’re very much looking forward to the new dynamic he’ll bring to our football team.'

'Rex has considerable currency with Triple M's dominant under 55 audience - we’re sure he will provide a very entertaining call and attract thousands of listeners to the station.'

James Brayshaw welcomed Rex on board, 'Rex Hunt pioneered entertainment in football calling. He is a giant in the industry and we can't wait for him to join the best calling team in football.'

Amarfio has also confirmed that Hunt's signing is the first of several exciting additions to Triple M's 2010 football calling team - the remainder of which will be announced over the coming weeks.

Say it isn't so. The great BT traded for Rexy. Not sure about this decision Triple M.

You've got to be kidding. This is obviously a joke and a publicity stunt. Isn't Rex a bit past it and not cool enough for Triple M.

BT is better than Rex was at his best and Rex is 10 years beyond his best, he doesn't even call the game. You should have replaced BT with an up and comer. You've lost me!

Onya Big Rexy. Puts the "E" for entertainment into otherwise bland commentary. Rex IS, and ALWAYS WILL BE FOOTBALL. Now what are the country relay stations in the Bendigo/Swan Hill area during the footy season. BRING IT ON.

I will be voting with my feet on this one! Upset that BT left; shattered, absolutely shattered that Rex has joined.
