Triple M’s Mark Skaife has described his Bathurst 1000 victory with Craig Lowndes on Sunday as a ‘fairytale’.

And not even ribbing from Mick Molloy about the 43-year-old’s age on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast could dampen Skaifey’s mood after he conquered Mount Panorama!

“It was just fantastic,” Skaifey said on Monday.

“To win 10 years after the first time Craig and I were sort of together at that race, and on that day 10 years ago we were very very close to winning it, it’s a fairytale finish for us.”

“To win this one, this is the grand final for Australian motorsport, it doesn’t get any better than that.”

Skaife, who battled an injured back throughout the race, was full of praise for the way Lowndes drove.

“All week he drove well,” Skaife said.

“I mean, that lap that he did early in the weekend with a six-eight (two minutes 06.8012 seconds on Friday), the fastest lap time ever up there, I can tell you when you do a lap time like that at that place ... and not hit the fence is very, very hard,” Skaife said.
