Sharks Fan Allegedly Set Off Illegal Fireworks After Fulltime
Just a handful of Cronulla fans have taken celebrations too far overnight after the team won its first NRL grand final, with police making two arrests and handing out 12 infringement notices in Sydney's south.
One man was arrested for allegedly setting off illegal fireworks in a Cronulla street following the Sharks' 14-12 victory over Melbourne on Sunday night, while another was arrested for an alleged assault on a security guard outside a pub, police said.
Nine people where issued infringement notices for not leaving a licensed premise when asked and three were issued notices for offensive behaviour.
Overall the behaviour of fans had been commendable and the small arrest number had been a good result, NSW police acting superintendent Mick Rochester said on Monday.
"Despite the large crowds at the game and licensed premises, we had no major issues. Both Sharks and Storm supporters' behaviour is to be commended," he said.
