Essendon young star Aaron Francis has reportedly asked for a trade.

Francis, who is under contract, has asked for a trade back to his native state of South Australia, according to the Herald Sun.

He is tied to the Bombers until the end of 2019, but has only played five games in two years.

Francis's manager Michael Doughty confirmed the news.

“He would prefer to return home,” he told News Corp on Friday.

The 20-year-old is yet to find his feet at AFL level, playing just three games in 2016 and two in 2017.

He was initially drafted with pick six in the 2015 AFL draft.
