The amazing images in this article were taken west of False Island (Mary Anne Passage) near Onslow in the Pilbara, Western Australia.

Tug-boat worker Brett Martin captured the photos of a thunderstorm on Wednesday, around sunset.

"We were steaming along in the boat just before sunset and the storm was casually building in the distance, then it got faster and faster and it went from glass to about 40 knots in two minutes," he told The West website.

According to Perth Weather Live the storm captured in these photos was not related to Cyclone Narelle.

Here's the details of what was happening at the time Brett took his snaps:

  • The tug was 25 Nautical miles NW of Onslow, just before sunset.
  • Conditions before the storm hit where glassy and flat.
  • When the dust storm hit, there was 2-metre swell and 40-knot winds.
  • There was an 'awesome' lightning show on the thunder heads once darkness fell.

And thanks again to Perth Weather Live, here's another pic as this storm crossed to coast.
