Godfather Neil Shows Big Day Out

The Big Day Out is the grandaddy of Aussie music festivals but it still moves and shakes with the best of 'em. More than 50,000 people streamed through the gates of Sydney's Homebush Bay totally pumped for a huge day of music which included Neil Young, The Living End, Sneaky Sound System and more.

The day always starts with the lesser-known bands aka the ones that are 'on the up' and don't have a thousand backstage demands. And most of them played well including the Eddie Current Suppression Ring, who holding the record for the world's longest band name, were short and sharp like a series of blows to the head.

WA’s Birds of Tokyo had the main stage moshing like it was Pearl Jam in the prime, while on the smaller stage The Ting Tings and OZ's Little Red took the bull by the horns and delivered some magic stuff.

Into the night and onto the main stages rode the big bands. Sneaky Sound System proved they have enough hits in the bank to get the crowd dancing off their feet, while The Living End delivered their typical set of Aussie Punk, which at one point had what seemed like the whole of Australia singing along to 'White Noise'.

But the night belonged to Neil Young. He may be over 60 but he's still as healthy as an ox. The man who’s influenced every rocker from the 90's onwards stomped through a set of greatest hits.

The heavy songs like 'Rockin' in the Free World' were simply awesome, while his quieter acoustic moments brought cheers from the crowd. He's lost none of his magic and neither has the Big Day Out.
