Not crazy about these 'by-the-numbers' songs. At their best, they are catchy with some decent hooks. Indeed, Dookie was one of the better records of this type in the nineties. But this is 2009...

I quite enjoyed their early releases when I was nineteen and so were Green Day but these guys are on the wrong side of thirty-five now.

Still 'angry'? Check. Still wearing eyeliner? Check. Still belting out those three chord pop punk anthems? Check. Except now there's a polished veneer in place of their grittier, carefree early sound. Add a bit of spit and polish and hey presto: a stadium band! (Kings of Leon anyone?..)

Call me a cynic but it would be naive to believe Green Day are 'pissed off'. When you're making that much money, how could you be? The anger seems a little manufactured and about a subtle as a heart-shaped hand grenade...

You can't deny Green Day's renaissance after Warning though so more power to them I guess. Blink 182 are jumping back on the bandwagon too - they know there's money to be made in this kind of music.

After hearing the whole album, I absolutely think this is their best album EVER!!

Before the Lobotomy and 21st Century Breakdown are the favourites for me.. closely followed by East Jesus Nowhere.

I have heard all of their songs and the ones that are here are definitely not the best.

These are some of the more ballad like songs, the best punk rock songs on this album are East Jesus Nowhere, Murder City, Horseshoes And Handgrenades, Know Your Enemy and the Static Age, in that order.
