U2’s Spider-Man Ready For Broadway
Music 26 February, 2009 - 7:29 AM
U2’s new album is still a day away from release, but half the band are already getting ready for their next project, a Broadway musical version of Spider-Man.
Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark will have its world premiere on Broadway in New York at the start of next year, with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge.
The musical is being put together by the people behind The Lion King musical [there’s nothing gay about that] and has a budget of about US$35 million. The cash is being coughed up by Marvel Entertainment, creators of Spider-Man, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, so expect a Blu-ray version by early 2011.
The stage show is expected to star actors Evan Rachel Wood and Jim Sturgess, who both recently appeared alongside Bono himself in the absolutely crap movie musical, Across The Universe, based on Beatles songs.
Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark is set to open at the Hilton Theater on Broadway on February 18, 2010, with previews starting from January 16.
Keep listening to Triple M all day today for previews of U2’s No Line On The Horizon ahead of its official release tomorrow.
Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark – whatya reckon? Would you see it if it came to a theatre near you? Does it sound really gay?
