Cold Chisel's Ian Moss has told Triple M announcer Jo Lynch it was a "nice surprise" to come across a Bow River sign in Western Australia.

"That was back in January, I was on the road with my own band, but that Bow River wasn't the one I wrote the song about," he said.

It's not often you come across an Aussie icon returning to his roots so we we're pretty stoked when a listener sent it to us via our Rock News facebook.

Mossy explained that the actual Bow River, in northern Western Australia, is actually sign-less with a "signpost but no sign".

"On the ground there's just heaps of screws and bolts...we found out later they got sick of putting them up because people would just take them as souvenirs," Mossy recalled.
