The bad news in the music world keeps on coming with news that Glenn Frey of The Eagles has died. He was 67.

It's understood he was unwell for some time and had surgery in November. However, his condition worsened in recent months.

"Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia," read a statement on The Eagles official website.

"The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery."

Glenn was a founding member of The Eagles. He co-wrote Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few.

He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home six Grammys with the band.

Triple M's Marto & Ed Kavalee broke the news this morning to Australian music journalist, Glen A. Baker, who had a close connection to Frey. He described the loss as a 'great surprise' and said Frey was a man, 'full of music, who needed to keep creating'.

And here we are, once again mourning the loss of another music icon.

Glenn Frey was a leader of a group of Southern California musicians who collectively redefined music in the 70's, creating what was to become known as 'The LA Sound'.

His band, The Eagles, became a mainstay of Australian AM radio at the time and, in 1980, led the charge of artists which dominated the formats of our new FM stations.

After five decades, Glenn Frey's songs remain indelibly etched in the hearts and minds of generations of music fans. They will remain classics for decades to come.

Glenn Frey, 67, gone too soon.

Glenn Frey such a brilliant songwriter and performer. A rock n roll giant with a band to match. Welcome to the 2016 Heavenly supergroup  Glenn. Lemmy on bass and David’s on vocals.  RIP

Triple M's Jacqui Kassulke can't believe we've lost another classic rocker.

"Even through they sometimes sounded a little middle of the road for my taste, the Eagles lived the true 70’s rock and roll lifestyle and Glenn co-wrote one of the most played songs ever in "Hotel California"," said Triple M's Jacqui Kassulke.

"What is even happening? We’re losing all the classic rockers. RIP."

More to come.

“It’s Your World Now”
Written by Glenn Frey and Jack Tempchin
From the Eagles’ Long Road Out of Eden album

A perfect day, the sun is sinkin’ low
As evening falls, the gentle breezes blow
The time we shared went by so fast
Just like a dream, we knew it couldn’t last
But I’d do it all again
If I could, somehow
But I must be leavin’ soon
It’s your world now

It’s your world now
My race is run
I’m moving on
Like the setting sun
No sad goodbyes
No tears allowed
You’ll be alright
It’s your world now

Even when we are apart
You’ll always be in my heart
When dark clouds appear in the sky
Remember true love never dies

But first a kiss, one glass of wine
Just one more dance while there’s still time
My one last wish: someday, you’ll see
How hard I tried and how much you meant to me

It’s your world now
Use well your time
Be part of something good
Leave something good behind
The curtain falls
I take my bow
That’s how it’s meant to be
It’s your world now
It’s your world now
It’s your world now'
