Sonic Highways premieres October 17 on HBO. The full trailer drops Friday. More info at Video: YouTube

Sonic Highways is the Dave Grohl-directed eight-episode HBO series described by Grohl as a love letter to the history of American music and premiering in the US on Friday, October 17 at 11 pm.

Foo Fighters Album News

"Foo Fighters have confirmed the worldwide release date of the band’s long awaited follow up the 4X-Grammy-winning, international #1 Wasting Light: The band's eighth studio album of all-new material will be titled Sonic Highways and will be released globally on Monday, November 10.

Though not a soundtrack album by any stretch, Sonic Highways shares its title with the Dave Grohl-directed eight-episode HBO series described by Grohl as a love letter to the history of American music and premiering Friday, October 17 at 11 pm.

For the album and series, Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear wrote and recorded one song in each of these eight cities, delving into the local musical currents: how each region shaped these musicians in their formative years, and in turn the impact those people had on the cultural fabric of their hometowns.

All songs feature local legends sitting in, with every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style: Dave held off on putting down words until the last day of each session, so as to be inspired by the experiences, interviews for the HBO series, and other local personalities who became part of the process." - from Sony Music.

It was an absolute pleasure to welcome AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd and Badger, the frontman for his new solo project into the studio to talk about his new solo album and Acca Dacca's future plans.

Topics on the table included;
- Phil Rudd's solo album Head Job
- AC/DC's new album
- AC/DC's touring plans

At this stage Phil Rudd has no plans to do any solo shows.

He said AC/DC's new album is finished and mastered but they may be giving it a bit more of a spit and polish. Listen to the full interview below.

You know him as the drummer of AC/DC, his name is Phil Rudd and he has a new solo album coming out called Head Job, which will be out on August 29.

Triple M's Lee Simon went one-on-one with the great man from Phil's new home in New Zealand to find out what he's been working on privately and he found the drummer firing on all cylinders and absolutely pulling no punches on the music biz.

Topics on the table included who he thinks is the best drummer that ever lived, his thoughts on wildman Keith Moon ("he's a moron"), Ginger Baker and Deep Purple's Ian Paice and, of course, where the AC/DC album/tour is at. Listen to the full interview below.

At the time we'd heard just the one song, the single "Repo Man", and Phil gave us this warning: "Trust me. It's f***in good!"," he exclaimed. Scroll to the bottom of the page to listen to the single.

Fooies Horror Ice Bucket

Foo Fighters do their ice bucket challenge by recreating a scene from Carrie

The Foo Fighters have accepted their ice bucket challenge from Zac Brown Band with an impressive recreation of the blood bucket scene from the 1976 movie Carrie.

Dave Grohl then passed the challenge on to Stephen King (who wrote the book Carrie), John Travolta (who played Billy Nolan in the film) and Jack Black...he's not in the film but he could do with a bucket of ice.

Here's the video Zac Brown Band used to challenge the Foo Fighters:

Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘Working Everyday’ On New Album

Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer reveals the band have already written around 30-songs.

Getty Images

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have already written around 30 songs for their new album according to guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.

"The Chili Peppers are working everyday writing," Klinghoffer told music news website Noise11.

"We’ve written musically 30 songs now... We sort of did this last time, which was my first album. We piled a sh*tload of stuff on Anthony and he actually came through. He wrote lyrics to 50 songs in the end. We recorded 50 last time," he said.

"We released an extra 17 that didn’t go on the album. We are conscious to not do that again but we are already up to 28 or 30 songs".

There is also speculation that the band may not be using long-time 'super producer' Rick Rubin who has worked with them on every album since 1991.

"That is sort of up in the air still. Normally he becomes involved in the arranging process but he hasn’t yet been which is good for me. I like it the way we are doing it so far. There has not been an official producer named yet so in the absence of that you never know what could happen," Klinghoffer said.

Klinghoffer joined the band in 2009 replacing longtime member John Frusciante.

The new studio album will be the band’s 11th, and their first since the 2011's 'I’m With You'.

Fans Not Impressed With Gene

The Kiss rocker has tried to quell outrage over his depression and suicide comments with a statement that some fans feel is insincere.

Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has tried to quell outrage over his depression and suicide comments with a statement posted on his Facebook page.

However, Kiss fans have questioned the sincerity of the apology and the motivations behind it.

"I want to make this statement about my views on depression for the record and to clarify my prior remarks,” Simmons writes. “I was wrong and in the spur of the moment made remarks that in hindsight were made without regard for those who truly suffer the struggles of depression."

"I sincerely apologise to those who were offended by my comments. I recognise that depression is very serious and very sad when it happens to anyone, especially loved ones. I deeply support and am empathetic to anyone suffering from any disease, especially depression,” he continues. The full statement is below.

Fans' reaction to his comments has been one of disgust and Gene's apology felt like pandering to many.

Simmons has also deleted his Twitter account in the wake of the controversey. The Social Network saw thousands of fans vent their anger at his comments and a #BanGene hastag was started.

Several radio stations in the US and Canada followed Triple M's move to remove Kiss songs from its playlists including Power97 FM in Winnipeg.

The Triple M Network has five metropolitan and 37 regional stations across Australia with a listenership of over 2.4 milllion.

Mike Fitzpatrick, the Network's head, remarked on Simmons' apology, “We will give careful consideration to the thoughts and feelings of our listeners and those directly affected by Gene’s comments before returning any Kiss songs to our playlist. Ultimately, we will let our listeners decide.”

Gene Simmons Said What?

Head of Triple M has reacted by removing all Kiss tracks nationwide from its playlist.

[Update] Triple M bans Kiss nationwide.

Mike Fitzpatrick, Triple M's Network head, has just pulled all Kiss tracks from playlists countrywide on the back of this story.

"Gene Simmons' recent comments are misguided and insensitive," Mike said. "Depression and Suicide are not topics he should be using to further his notoriety or sell records. His desperation to use mental health issues to find relevancy in a modern age is sickening. I can only put it down to a brain fade on his part. The Triple M Network can’t and won’t be playing or supporting this dickhead’s music. I put the challenge out to other stations across Australia and North America to also drop any of this nudnik's songs until such time as he reconsiders his thoughtless and insensitive position."

Gene Simmons has been widely criticised for making insensitive comments about depression and suicide after he told sufferers 'f*** you, then kill yourself’.

The Kiss bassist dismissed depression as a mental disorder in an article with One in eight Australian men experience depression and mental health issues have been particularly highlighted this week in the aftermath of Robin Williams' tragic death.

In the candid interview recently, the 64-year-old said: "Fuck you, then kill yourself. I never understand, because I always call them on their bluff. I'm the guy who says 'jump' when there's a guy on top of a building who says, 'that's it, I can't take it anymore. I'm going to jump’. Are you kidding? Why are you announcing it? Shut the fuck up, have some dignity and jump! You've got the crowd.”

"By the way, you walk up to the same guy on a ledge who threatens to jump and put a gun to his head (and say) 'I'm going to blow your fuckin' head off', he'll go, 'please don't’. It's true. He's not that insane," Simmons said.

However, the rock star’s comments have been widely criticised.

Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx announced on his Sixx Sense radio show: “It’s pretty moronic … There is a 20-year-old kid out there who is a Kiss fan and reads this and goes, 'You know what? He's right. I should just kill myself’."

Simmons has also been labelled a hypocrite after he tweeted, ‘R.I.P. Robin Williams. A kind and generous man’, in the wake of the actor’s tragic death this week.

Kiss is celebrating its 40th year in rock and were recently inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame.

Australia has a tragically high suicide rate, with suicide killing three times more Australian males aged between 15 and 45 than all car accidents combined.

Robin Williams’ AC/DC Connection

The last words ever recorded by Bon Scott were ‘shazbot, nano nano’

The last words ever recorded by AC/DC’s Bon Scott were ‘shazbot, nano nano’ because he loved Robin Williams and he loved Mork and Mindy.

“On the last record that Bon Scott recorded, Highway To Hell, the last track on that record, Night Prowler, which is one of my very favourite under-rated AC/DC tracks,” James Young said on Triple M’s The Hot Breakfast.

“At the very end of the record, the last thing that Bon Scott recorded, he pays a little homage to his hero Robin Williams.”

’Shazbot’ was a made up swear word that Robin Williams created for the comedy series Mork & Mindy (1978).
