AC/DC Up For ARIA Nomination Post by: Eddie Ruckus - Rockin' Blogger 8 October, 2009 - 7:42 AM

AC/DC, Empire Of The Sun, Ladyhawke, Eskimo Joe and The Temper Trap are among the front runners in the ARIA Award nominations announced this morning.

AC/DC have scored a total of four nominations, in the categories for highest selling Australian album [well, der!!], as well as best rock album [double der!!], best group and album of the year for Black Ice.

Unbelievably, according to our research, it is the first time that AC/DC – unquestionably the biggest band to come out of Australia – has ever been nominated for an ARIA award. Can you believe that?

The band was, however, included in the first batch of acts to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame way back in 1988.

It’s a weird mixed up year of nominations with pop star Jessica Mauboy leading the field with seven nominations, Empire Of The Sun runner-up with six, followed by Ladyhawke with five.

Of the rockers, Eskimo Joe will go head-to-head with Acca Dacca in three categories: best group, as well as best rock album and album of the year for Inshalla. [Um, no need to feel nervous, boys - gulp!!!]

This year’s ARIA Awards will be presented at Sydney’s Acer Arena on Thursday, November 26. If you want to attend, public tickets to the show go on sale October 16. Otherwise, the whole thing will be broadcast live on Channel Nine.

Some of the major nominations:

Best Rock Album
AC/DC – Black Ice
Eskimo Joe – Inshalla
Jet – Shaka Rock
The Drones – Havilah
The Temper Trap – Conditions

Best Group
AC/DC – Black Ice
Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream
Eskimo Joe – Inshalla
Hilltop Hoods – State Of The Art
The Drones – Havilah

Album of the Year
AC/DC – Black Ice
Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream
Eskimo Joe – Inshalla
Sarah Blasko – As Day Follows Night
The Temper Trap – Conditions

What do you think – is it about time AC/DC picked up an ARIA or two?

As much as I love AC/DC I'd like to see The Drones get best album.

Their newie was definitely the most interesting and they always out on one hell of a live show.

I always love an underdog so I rate Eskimo Joe's Inshalla as one of the best Aussie albums of the year.

Great sounds, the arrangements on that record are massive and I think the songs are just bloody good.

AC/DC has to win it, Black Ice went no. 1 in 29 countries and has sold 8 million albums worldwide, at least let the greatest band ever win 1!
