There wasn’t much rock going on at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions last night in New York [Faith Hill singing ABBA anyone?] – that’s until Iggy Pop and his Stooges got their turn to punk it up.

The honour of inducting the punk pioneers into the Hall of Fame went to a bloke who knows a little bit about punk himself – Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong.

“They symbolise the destruction of flower power and the creation of raw power,” Armstrong said, before throwing on a guitar and joining Iggy and his band in bashing out a couple of songs.

During their version of the punk classic “I Wanna Be Your Dog”, Iggy tried to get the whole crowd up on stage with him.

Among the first audience members to storm the stage were Eddie Vedder and Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam and Green Day's Mike Dirnt, the lot of them running and jumping around like a bunch of kids at a birthday party who’ve had too much Coke.

“Roll over Woodstock,” Iggy said in accepting his award. “We won!”

Any Iggy Pop fans here? Is he truly the Godfather of Punk?

Hey Ho yes I have a soft spot for Iggy. Ever since I wore out a cassette and a vinyl listening to Dog Food and I'm Bored I was converted over 30 years ago. Just love him.

Rock on Iggy. You are a genius.
