EXCLUSIVE: Behind The Scenes Of Roger Waters "The Wall Live" Australian Tour Post by: Dave-O 20 January, 2012 - 4:38 PM

Go backstage on the Roger Waters Wall tour.

Well, there's always a perk to every job. We were lucky enough to score an exclusive backstage "Access All Areas" pass to the Roger Waters production, The Wall Live. All from Burswood Dome, Perth, ahead of the first Australian show on January 27.

We know what you're thinking... 'That must be a bloody massive show to be setting up a week out from the first show.' And you'd be right, it IS a bloody big show, one of the biggest we've seen.

But, there's a method to their madness. The Roger Waters machine is spending the week rehearsing the show and the timings, to make sure everything goes seamlessly for the Aussie tour. That process alone involves the musicians, the lighting and video guys, the pyrotechnics person, everyone.

In terms of numbers, it's pretty impressive. There’s a crew of 70 travelling with the show, with another 150 or so locals hired to help set down once the show has finished.

It’s estimated that it costs $200,000 a day to keep this show on the road, but they keep selling tickets which keeps the show on the road. Funny that.

In the 2-hour plus show Roger Waters and his kick-ass band will perform the top-selling album in its entirety including Pink Floyd classics like "Another Brick In The Wall", "Comfortably Numb" and "In The Flesh".

This is the same massive state-of-the-art concert that he's been doing across the US and Europe. By all reports the state-of-the-art sound and visuals are mind-blowing.

"It benefits from the technologies of the last 30 years. The projection they use on the wall is stunning," promoter Michael Coppel told Triple M late last year.

"They have all the theatrics," he said. "The flying pig, the plane that flies across the arena, a lot of pryo and the band is absolutely stunning. It's virtually like a U2 stadium show but done inside."

"To me it's the best arena production I've ever seen anyone do. Period. And that's 35 years of seeing bands put shows into arenas."

Make sure to check out our photos from the backstage tour. And keep an eye out as we have exclusive video footage from the backstage tour with Roger's international production manager, Chris Kansey.

The tour kicks off Jan 27 in Perth and finishes in Sydney on February 14.
