'Finger's Stormy Opening Night Post by: Dave-O 11 September, 2010 - 9:37 AM

The Finger's opening night in Melbourne went off with the Brisbane band giving fans a two-hour romp through their 15-year history.

And according to Triple M's Jay Mueller who attended Powderfinger's first show of a two-night stand at Rod Laver Arena, the show wasn't without it's funny moments either when early in the set singer Bernard Fanning, a massive footy-head, had a crack at Melbourne's NRL team, the Melbourne Storm.

"It's alright that you're not at the football tonight," said Fanning.

"It's a big match and you really give a s**t," before the singer added with a smile "Well, you do have your own cheating rugby league team don't you?"

Jay said the singer's light-hearted comment was all forgiven when they launched into the crowd fave "My Happiness", which turned the tennis centre into Melbourne's largest karaoke bar.

"From the opening chords of "Love Your Way" through to a raw, intense version of "Like A Dog", culminating with a simply beautiful "These Days", Powderfinger delivered a show that the thousands who have bought tickets across Australia hoped to see."

Powderfinger play a second show Saturday night and return to Melbourne for one last show on October 29.

The show was amazing, however I completely disagree with Dave-O on this one, the crack at Melbourne Storm was light-hearted and I think the audience took it as such. I don't think there was any awkwardness at all, the crowd reaction was just as light-hearted.

Still, a truly amazing way to go out. Great band, great songs and great memories.
