Green Day Blows Brisbane Away Post by: Eddie Ruckus - Rockin' Blogger 10 December, 2009 - 7:46 AM
Seems like if you want to experience the best shows from visiting rockers, Brisbane is awesome one night, f**king rocking the next!
Following on from Pearl Jam’s legendary Brissie gig a couple of weeks back, Green Day came to town this week and blew the Entertainment Centre apart.
Last night’s show was particularly special with the band and crowd helping drummer Tré Cool [Frank Edwin Wright III to his mum] celebrate his 37th birthday.
The crowd sang happy birthday while Billie Joe Armstrong did the honours of shoving a birthday cake in his drummer’s face. Even support act Jet got in on the festivities, dedicating “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” to Tré.
In a two-and-a-half hour show that was loose and full of juice, Green Day played like it was their last night on Earth. They seemed to be plucking the setlist out of thin air, giving an airing to tracks like “When I Come Around”, “Blizkering Bop” and “Knowledge”.
But when they started “Disappearing Boy” and Billie Joe decided the crowd wasn’t into it, they just stopped and instead played a crowd-pleasing rendition of “Sweet Home Australia”.
Look, it was a classic show – a Green Day fan’s wet dream. Lucky bloody Brisbane! Sydney and Melbourne, let’s just hope they haven’t already shot their load.
Were you at one of the Brissie shows? Wasn’t it awesome?

I was at green day last night, it was awesome, the best concert I have ever gone to, they are all about pleasing the crowd.
In total they must of had about 10 people go up on stage and join them through out the night, with 3 lucky people even got to play drums, bass & guitar, how awesome is that!!
Billy Joe shot t-shirts up into the crowd with a spud gun, which all reached the very back of the entertainment center (and they were probs sad about their crap seating till then) fire works, green day confettii, blazing fire, they had it all.
I've always liked greenday but I think they are new my new fav band.
We love you Green Day.

I was at the first Brisbane show on the 8th, and although we didn't have people come up on the stage to play guitar bass and drums, one girl got up to sing Longview and Billie Joe just sat back.
Whether you were at the 8th or the 9th, I'm sure Green Day was amazing both days, and everyone going to shows in the future will have a lot of fun.

Last time I saw Green Day it was at Milton Keynes Bowl in the UK (Bullet In A Bible show) I thought that couldn't be beaten, but I was wrong.
On Wednesday night they were awesome. One of the best shows I've ever seen (and I'm 43 & have been going to live shows since 1979). The set was all inclusive the interaction with the crowd was "freddiemercuryesque" which is the ultimate accolade, and the whole show seemed impromptu and spontanious. Billie Joe really did seem to be having the "time of his life"
Not sure why but EVERY show I've seen at Boondal has been very good, whether it's the crowd, the venue or what I'm not sure.
I wish it was tomorrow so I could go again, Have they shot their collective loads? I hope so, but if they didn't there's a few thousand peeps gonna in for a real treat.

I saw them on Tuesday night and from the minute they walked out they had us all in the palm of their hands. It was the greatest show I've ever seen (and even a few days later when the buzz has worn off I still think so).
There was so much interaction with the crowd that you really felt part of the show as opposed to a spectator. So many people got dragged up on stage, stuff was thrown/sprayed/shot at us.
It was awesome and nothing I can write here will explain it properly. I will never ever miss a Green Day show from now on!!

Can't wait to see Green Day. Especially if they're as good as all those Queenslanders reckon they are!

I went to Green Day on December 8, and my highlight was definitely Billie Joe getting a guy and girl to sing 'Longview' for them. The only notable omission from the set was 'Welcome To Paradise'.
