It Was Great To Play With GN'R Says Duff Post by: Dave-O 22 October, 2010 - 10:29 AM

There's been much bad blood between Axl and the original members of Guns N' Roses, so the sight of Axl inviting Duff on stage for a few songs during a recent GN'R show has left fans wondering if this could be the beginning of a beautiful thing, namely a reunion of the original lineup.

Blabbermouth has reported that Duff spoke to KISW 99.9 FM's "The BJ Shea Morning Experience" show in Seattle about his surprise appearance at the London O2 Arena.

And in typical Duff style he didn't want to make a big deal about it. According to him it was just being in the right place and the right time.

"I got to London, checked into the hotel and had no idea Axl and Guns N' Roses were in London. So [the hotel manager and I] are going up the elevator and he said, 'You know, Axl is in the room next to us'.

"So Axl and I met up, saw each other and hugged. I went down to the gig with him. [It was like] a couple of old friends got over some of those hurdles. We had a nice dinner the day after the show, and that was it."

Duff said he missed hanging with his old buddy, and while they got on well he had no idea he'd end up on stage with Axl pumping out Gunners songs (see the video above).

"[I was] watching [the show] and somebody comes over with a bass... I haven't played 'You Could Be Mine" since 1993. I'd forgotten the second part of the bridge, and I had to look at [guitarist] Bumblefoot to see where the next guitar chord was. It was fun. I had a great time."

A lot has been said about Axl's new GN'R being just a bunch of hired hands, but Duff disagrees.

"They're great players [and] great guys. I've gotten to know Bumblefoot and Tommy [Stinson, bass] and Frank [Ferrer], the drummer. And, of course, there's Dizzy [Reed, keyboards]. It's a great band."

Duff wouldn't be drawn into talk of a possible reunion. "It's not something I sit there and go, 'OK, one day this is gonna happen'. [This] was very serendipitous and the blood was in the water, no doubt."

But he did admit he no longer has ill feelings about his split from GN'R.

"We can all look back at our pasts and go, 'Well, he did this to me and...' [You have to step back] and take a look in the mirror."

Bring back the original GUNNERS, this is long overdue. They need to get over what ever bad blood was between them and get back to doing what they do best - Writing and playing KICK ASS MUSIC.

I saw Guns N' Roses in '92 at Calder park. I won't go see Guns N' Roses until they hire a Guitar player named Slash... Say, didn't he used to play for them?? :D

Admittedly, Chinese Democracy is just starting to grow on me...
