We hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Soundwave Revolution 2011 has been cancelled.
Soundwave tour organiser AJ Maddah told a Sydney radio station this afternoon that they decided to cancel next month's festival after the second headliner pulled out. The organisers believed the lineup wasn't strong enough to go ahead.
An official statement posted on the Soundwave official website said:
"It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of the Revolution Festival.
"Many of the festival bands will still be coming to Australia in that time period and team up to bring you some very special shows. These will include multi-band/mini festival line-ups in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. We will be announcing these events in the next 7 days.
"Tickets purchased online will be refunded automatically as soon as it can be processed. If you purchased from an outlet, refunds will be available next week from point of purchase."
Triple M Melbourne's Higgo is one Soundwave fan devastated by the news.
"Van Halen was obviously the draw card for me, especially with DLR (David Lee Roth) up front," he said.
"But there [were] so many brilliant bands to see, Hell Yeah, Bad Religion, Alice Cooper, the list goes on and on. I was ready to rock the f**k out."
Meanwhile, fans have shown their disappointment across our Triple M Rock facebook page.
Sharon Hoffman said: "No way, and i wanted to travel all the way out to Melton to see it," while Rowan Miller was lost for words: "I can't believe it... I am literally speechless to describe my disappointment."
But good on Jason Kooy for looking on the bright side. "Awesome news! Now maybe Van Halen will do a proper tour if they ever get their s**t together!"
Indeed, we're not sure what this means for headliner Van Halen and whether they'll come out anyway and do a proper Aussie tour.
