Jane’s Addiction Split Post by: Eddie Ruckus 3 March, 2010 - 7:32 AM

It might come as a surprise to anyone who saw Jane’s Addiction on their Oz tour over the past couple of weeks – or maybe not – but Eric Avery, the band’s original bass player, has left the group.

Avery, who originally formed the band with singer Perry Farrell, announced the split immediately following Jane’s Addiction final Australian show in Perth on Sunday night.

“That’s it,” Avery wrote on Twitter. “With equal parts regret and relief, the Jane’s Addiction experiment is at an end.”

Avery only rejoined the band in 2008, having not played with Jane’s Addiction since their original split back in 1991. Ironically, that was also following an Australian tour.

If anyone in the band is upset by Avery’s departure, they’re doing a good job at not showing it.

The band has already announced Avery’s replacement, a chap by the name of Duff McKagan. You might know him from such other rock & roll train wrecks as GN’R and Velvet Revolver.

“Everyone is so excited to get home now and start working on a new record and a show,” said Farrell. “I wrote a song today, ‘The Great Escape Artist’, and I am going to write at least three more on the way back to LA. All I keep thinking is, ‘This is the beginning of something that already feels great. I cannot wait.”

Yep, thanks for playing Avery. You’ll be missed … not.

Who saw Jane’s Addiction on their recent tour? Any thoughts on the split or Duff McKagan as the replacement?

It's no great shock, Perry and Avery haven't got along for years. He will be missed as he was part of the magic that was Jane's Addiction back when they began.

I hope the boys keep going coz I love JA, although, I must admit, they sounded a lot better when I was 15 and 'experimenting' with a few illegal substances!

Duff on bass? I hope he doesn't fall off the wagon! Aren't the Jane's boys notorious party animals?

Eric didn't look like he was a happy chappy on stage, so good riddance.

Duff will be sweet az a great player, and he won't fall off the wagon as his vice was alcohol but docs told him yrs ago one more glass and ur dead, so all's goood.
