Metallica's Best Gig Ever Post by: Dave-O 20 September, 2010 - 11:08 AM

Hell yeah! What a frickin' cool show this was. And judging by the reviews it's bloody obvious that Metallica still set the standard for metal.
Metallica gave the sold-out crowd on Saturday night at Sydney's Acer Arena a night to remember with an epic show featuring early classics like "Ride The Lightning" and "Fight Fire With Fire".
It was also great to see the pyro make an appearance. Drummer Lars Ulrich was in fine form, which some fans thought was a hundred times better than he was on the '04 tour – as was James Hetfield.
Hetfield's voice was as potent as ever, but it was funny to see the new, friendly "are we having a good time tonight?" James as opposed to the old, aggro "f*** yeah, we’re ready!" James.
Massive Metallica fan, Raelynne Ecclestone, exclaimed on our Facebook page that it was their "BEST GIG EVERRRRR!"
"It was freakin AWESOME!," she continued "Killin' me that I don't have tickets to ANY of the other Sydney Shows! But last night will keep me going... it was THE BEST! And speaking of fingers *sigh* Kirk!!! and James and Rob AND Lars!!!
While Jason Woodward added: "Yeah I went on Saturday night, it was an awesome concert. The light show and fire coming up from the stage was mad. They are definitely rock legends."

What an amazing gig. The build-up, the amazing opening from Fear Factory got us going... then the wait for the best band in the world to hit the stage.
Once they got onto the 'round' stage (not a bad seat in the house) they played every one of their killer songs.. a few new ones mixed in, didn't mind those either.
An amazing light show and pyro made the experience even better - what's a rock show without the chance of a band member being killed?
The only thing... what was with the ending??? Really??? Oh, I have to leave now and get the train? OK... cool.. see ya in 6 weeks.

What an amazing show! They are back with a vengeance! Even Lars was amazing. This is easily the best show I've ever seen.

Against the grain of a lot of other reviews, I have to say that I personally was a little disappointed by the Metallica concert.
They are an epic rock band and have such a list of hits that it would have been impossible to play all of them in a single concert.
However, a lot of their brilliant classics such as hero of the day and The unforgiven II as well as The memory remains were surprisingly absent. And I was very sorry not to hear them.
Metallica were still an amazing band to see live; they are such professional, seasoned musicians with a real stage presence, great songs and a unique way to bond with their faithful audience. If only they covered a few more of the Classics.
On a lighter note, Fear factory were Kickass! My partner was a Fear Factory fan from back in the day and said he'd never seen them in better shape. They pleased all the fans with their hits and were a lot of fun. It was great to see both highly respected bands in the one night. I'll just have to placate myself by listening to "until it sleeps" on my stereo.

My husband and I & my sister have listened to Metallica for 25 years.
We are now in our early 50's and we had the best seats in the house on Saturday night and we didn't care that we were surrounded by younger people, we rocked on like we were back in our twenties.
We wore our Metallica Tshirts as well.
We are going again to their 1st concert in November. Cannot wait!

I absolutely loved the concert on Saturday night. I thought that it was mad that The Sword came out first, to me they seemed like a perfect opening band for Metallica.
Fear Factory did not really do it for me. Their style of metal doesn't seem like the right type to open up a Metallica concert. And in my opinion I didn't think they were that good anyway.
The setlist was absolutely perfect. There were some songs I would've loved to have seen them play live (For Whom the Bell Tolls, Whiplash, Creeping Death) however I think that it was an amazing setlist, not to much of the new stuff but alot of the old classics. The lights and pyro were also amazing.
Loved the entire concert, minus the 2 hours between the Sword and Metallica.

Hero Of The Day and Unforgiven 2 are "classics"? I really, really don't think anything from Load and Reload is EVER going to be classed as classics for these guys, there is a reason they hardly play them these days.
The show was Great, the setlist was near perfect. Cant wait for Brisbane and rest of tour :)

I loved every single moment of this show... the best gig I've ever had the honour of attending, my ears are still ringing!
I'm so proud of the boys in their work on Death Magnetic, a fantastic album, and even though they played a heap of old school classics, I was hoping to hear Broken beat and scarred off the new record.. They did, and it kicked ass. Love the song, love the album. Love everything they've done over the last 3 decades..
Greatest Metal band ever!! Thanks boys, see ya in November.

Yep Scott, Death Magnetic is a brilliant album, love em all, but DM is a return to their best! (in my humble opinion) and I loved that they played three of the best tracks off it. Broken Beat and Scarred rocked, opening with That was just your Life was truly awesome and All Nightmare long is already a classic to me!
Of course there will always be songs we love that can't be played, just because the guys have to sleep sometime, I guess (I'm thinking the final concerts in each city will go on a little longer?... damn, if anyone has a spare ticket... here I am!).
Would have loved to hear Suicide and Redemption, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Unforgiven III, The Call of Ktulu, etc etc... lol, who needs sleep...
