Nickelback's Gold Medal Performance Post by: Eddie Ruckus 2 March, 2010 - 8:29 AM

Remember when Sydney had the Olympics and we closed the show with an all-star rocking finale starring Midnight Oil, INXS, Kylie Minogue, Yothu Yindi and Men At Work.

Yesterday it was Canada’s shot at showing the world its best with the Winter Olympics closing ceremony featuring performances from K-os [oh, yeah!!!], Simple Plan, Michael Buble, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette, Neil Young and, of course, everyone’s favourite, Nickelback.

The ’Back rocked it out alright, bursting into their 2008 single, “Burn It To The Ground”, whose lyrics include: “We’re screaming like demons/ Swinging from the ceiling/I got a fistful of 50s/ tequila just hit me/ Oh, we got no class, no taste, no shirt, and shit faced/ We got it lined up, shot down, firing back straight crown.” That’s the Olympic spirit, right there.

The band also treated the crowd to a taste of their biggest hit “How You Remind Me”. It went down a treat.

Which begs the question – given the chance, what would the pickle have performed?

Did you see the closing ceremony? Did Nickelback rock or reek? Who is Canada’s finest?

    Oh God...

The Montreal music scene is one of, if not, the best and most creative music scene in the world...

and yet Avril Lavigne and Nickelback get a call up.

    shame...
