It was all fun and games a couple of weeks ago when the makers of the video game Guitar Hero 5 announced they’d been working closely with the one and only Courtney Love to perfect the character of her late husband Kurt Cobain in the new game.
Well, since the game’s release, all hell has broken loose and Miss Love has happily taken on the role of the devil.
The above footage of Cobain doing the Jov’s “You Give Love A Bad Name” sent Love into a fury and scrambling for her Twitter account.
For two days straight, Love went absolutely ballistic over what describes as the “disgusting” and “insane” use of Cobain’s image in the game.
“For the record, I did not approve Kurt’s avatar for Guitar Hero 5,” Love raved. “I think Kurt would despise this game alone let alone this avatar.”
So who does she blame most? “You can ass-rape Dave [Grohl],” Love tastefully explained in one post. “He was always a bad seed and is still riding the shit while I take bullets. If there’s a hell, he’s going. I’m not.”
Oh, really? You might remember that a couple of weeks back, one of the Guitar Hero 5 designers explained that: “Courtney supplied us with photos and videos and knew exactly what she wanted Kurt to look like … She was actually great to work with.”
Over the weekend, the surviving members of Nirvana – Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic – released a joint statement to clear things up.
“We want people to know that we are dismayed and very disappointed in the way a facsimile of Kurt is used in the Guitar Hero game,” they said. “The name and likeness of Kurt Cobain are the sole property of his estate – we have no control whatsoever in that area."
They added: “It’s hard to watch an image of Kurt pantomiming other artists’ music alongside cartoon characters. We feel he deserves better. We urge Activision to do the right thing in ‘re-locking’ Kurt’s character so that this won’t continue in the future.”

This sucks!!!! Leave Jon Bon Jovi do "BON JOVI" and Kurt Cobain do "NIRVANA" - How stupid to mix the two!!!!!!
What a stupid idea to mix any other music other than Nirvana with Kurt Cobain to begin with!!!

Is it cynical of me to think that all this commotion being made by Courtney Love will only aid in boosting the exposure of the game and subsequently it sales?
Maybe Courtney Love has struck a commission deal on games sold or is that a step too far??

That's shit and the gamers should make a Nirvana guitar hero all on it own or a grunge one with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and the likes.

They should have buried Courtney with that dumb dead prick, so we could have been rid of them both ... bad form Guitar Hero, I have purchased every previous GH game, but when they rehash 'a never was' to ruin the mastery of Bon Jovi, you couldn't pay me to play GH5 ... looks like I'm buying the next Rockband instead :)

I am a huge Bon Jovi fan but also have always loved Nirvana's music and found Kurt Cobain very inspiring.
I don't really see the point of having Cobain sing a Bon Jovi song. Let each character play their own songs, that's a lot more fun.
I don't think all that commotion over the matter is necessary but I do agree that these specific two of my favorite bands are ill-matched to be seen playing each other's songs.
Back in the day, they belonged to rivaling strands of the rock scene. Peace!
